Spicy calamari – The Prado at Balboa Park

Spicy calamari - The Prado at Balboa Park
Korean chili sauce, napa cabbage slaw. $9.95
The Prado at Balboa Park, San Diego CA

I don’t usually like fried calamari made from squid steaks because they tend to be rubbery and flavorless. These, however, were delicious! The Korean chili sauce they tossed the calamari in was SO flavorful and had a bit of a kick to it, noms! The napa cabbage slaw was also pretty tasty.

Geezus, this drink was WAY too sweet! I took a couple sips then requested that they add some soda. And isn’t it called an “old fashioned”? I was not impressed…

Baja fish taco - South Beach Bar & Grille
Battered and fried pollock. Served on a soft flour tortilla with cheese, red cabbage, salsa fresca and white sauce. $3.25
South Beach Bar & Grille, San Diego CA

Mmm, this was SO yummy! I do wish that they had used corn tortillas or at least grilled these lame flour tortillas though. Besides that, I really enjoyed this delicious and fairly sizeable fish taco!

Chili marinated shrimp skewers - Bankers Hill
With cabbage slaw. Happy hour $3
Bankers Hill, San Diego CA

There was very little of this, but it was mighty tasty, lol! I rarely see shrimp individually skewered because they’re so small but Bankers Hill managed to present a delicious morsel. We definitely should have had additional orders. 🙂

Cast iron quail eggs - State Bird Provisions
1/2 dozen quail eggs, sunchoke, mixed greens, and ravigote. $12

This dish was very different! The sauce ravigote tasted great with the quail eggs because it helped to cut the richness of the eggs. The crispy sunchokes were also fun.

Ok, I did appreciate that these soup dumplings were individually spooned for easy eating. They also tasted pretty good which I wouldn’t say about some of the other dishes we had at M.Y. China.
