Manhattan rye – Region

Manhattan rye - Region

Templeton rye whiskey, antica formula, morello cherry juice. $10
Region, San Francisco CA

Boy, do they like to keep this place dark! I guess it’s to create a cool, hip atmosphere but it seems too much when it’s early on and SO bright and sunny outside. This cocktail was OK, but perhaps with too much cherry juice.

Mushroom bruschetta – Grub

Mushroom bruschetta - Grub
Pastrami spiced, gruyere cheese, sauerkraut, 1000 island. $10
Grub, San Francisco CA

The ingredients of this bruschetta looked so odd together that I had to try it. Omg, it actually tasted really good! I’m not even a sauerkraut fan, or a 1000 island dressing fan for that matter, but they somehow all worked great together. Mmm!

Cocktails 2 – Beretta

Lone Wolf cocktail - Beretta
Lone Wolf – bourbon, lemon, averna, gomme, cardamom. $10
Beretta, San Francisco CA

Mmm, the cocktails at Beretta are usually very tasty. BUT our first cocktail, however, took forever to come out. I don’t know if the waitress forgot to ring it up or they lost the ticket, but she eventually came over to apologize for the long delay. Not a good way to start a meal. I hate poor timing!

Improved Whiskey Cocktail - Beretta
Improved Whiskey Cocktail – rye, dubonnet, maraschino, absinthe. $11

Loco moco – Namu Gaji

Loco moco - Namu Gaji
“We love eating loco moco. A Hawaiian staple, great for hangovers.” Marin Sun Farms grassfed beef patty, dashi gravy, sunny-side up egg over rice. $12
Namu Gaji, San Francisco CA

Meh, this was a disappointment. You couldn’t taste the dashi flavor in the gravy and the portion was super small. There’s so little food that it wouldn’t begin to cure a hangover! I was also confused why this came in a paper boat while they use real boards and dinnerware for everything else. This was my first time at Namu Gaji and I was definitely NOT impressed.

Francois Pinon Vouvray - Namu Gaji

Francois Pinon Vouvray “non-dose” NV (chenin blanc). $12
This sparkling wine tasted ok, but it was such a tiny pour for twelve bucks! Sheesh!

Coca of wild nettles – Contigo

Coca of wild nettles - Contigo
Flatbread with smoked bacon, melted leeks, manchego and housemade mato cheese. $15
Contigo, San Francisco CA

I love the cocas at Contigo. The flatbread always has a great texture and is so flavorful. This wild nettle coca was a new one for me, and it was SO tasty especially with the two types of cheese and bacon.

Poire belle Helene – Le P’tit Laurent

Poire belle Helene - Le P'tit Laurent
Poached pear with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream. $7.50
Le P’tit Laurent, San Francisco CA

This was the perfect dessert to end our meal. It wasn’t too sugary sweet and it had a great firm texture. And how can you go wrong with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce?!
