Pulled pork eggs benedict – Brenda’s French Soul Food

Pulled pork eggs benedict - Brenda's French Soul Food
Over cream biscuit, poached egg, hollandaise, with potato hash. $12.75
Brenda’s French Soul Food, San Francisco CA

Wow, this was very tasty but oh so heavy! You really couldn’t eat both of them. Between the cream biscuit, pork, egg and hollandaise sauce it was just a rock in your stomach. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but a little went a long way! 😉

Burmese style beef curry – Burma Superstar

Burmese style beef curry - Burma Superstar
Burma Superstar’s special curry. Beef braised until tender with potatoes and topped with cilantro. $13.75
Burma Superstar, San Francisco CA

I’m not actually sure what makes this curry Burmese. I really need to find out these distinctions. I’ve noticed that most of the time, Burmese food is pretty similar to Thai food. But this curry was more like a beef stew that a typical Southeast Asian curry that you might think of. Regardless, it was very tasty and super hearty. There was plenty of beef in there so we definitely got full. 🙂

True cod ‘n chips – Anthony’s Fish Bar

True cod 'n chips - Anthony's Fish Bar
3 piece Alaska true cod with French fries, tartar sauce. $7.99
Anthony’s Fish Bar, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

There’s a little place in my heart for Anthony’s restaurants because I worked at their Bell Street Diner on Pier 66 during a summer in college. I really can’t fairly compare food from their fish bar at the Sea-Tac airport to their regular offerings, but I will say that I was not impressed. The fish tasted ok, but they were a little greasy and limp. The fries were also a bit wilted so I would say that this was a sad basket overall.

Country gravy, fried cheese curd, french fried potato, tender herbs, fried egg. $13
The Coterie Room, Seattle WA

Wow, this was really delicious! All the flavors were great and I loved the addition of the sunny side up egg on top. I wish I could eat this more often, but then I’d have to buy larger clothes. 😉

Bacon and eggs – Wingmasters Sports Bar

Bacon and eggs - Wingmasters Sports Bar
Two eggs over-easy with sizzling fresh bacon, Yukon Gold hashbrowns and toast. $7.59
Wingmasters Sports Bar, Seattle WA

This basic breakfast is hearty enough and at a reasonable price. The servers here are really great and the atmosphere is upbeat and friendly. It’s a wonderful spot to grab a beer and wings to watch sports tv in Ballard.

Wheat toast - Wingmasters Sports Bar

Sausage, egg and cheese muffin sandwich meal – Burger King

Sausage, egg and cheese muffin - Burger King
Savory sausage, eggs, and melted American cheese inside a warm English muffin. Served with small side of hash browns and a small Seattle’s Best coffee.. $5.29
Burger King, San Francisco CA

I can’t remember the last time I was at a Burger King in the States. I don’t really like their food very much, but I was late to work and didn’t have time to eat breakfast at home so I ducked in to BK for a quick meal. The sandwich was what I expected, OK. But they do seem bigger that the sandwiches at McDonald’s though.

Hash browns - Burger King

Hash browns. These are the best part of a Burger King visit. I swear they must have MSG in them because they’re SO addictive. 🙂 But why don’t they call them tater tots? That has always confused me.

Seattle's Best coffee - Burger King

Seattle’s Best coffee. It’s super ghetto looking with the ill-fitting unbranded sleeve.

Fried chicken – Town Hall

Buffalo fried chicken - Town Hall
Buffalo fried chicken (Sunday BBQ special), jambalaya(?). $23
Town Hall, San Francisco CA

Um, this wasn’t a successful dish. It had a weird flavor (and not very Buffalo-y tasting either), and the crust was soggy. Maybe they fried the chicken pieces first then tossed them in a Buffalo sauce, but by the time they made it to our table the sauce had soaked through the batter. The sides were also forgettable because I don’t even remember what they were and I can’t tell from the pic. I think one of them was a jambalaya though.

Mary's buttermilk fried chicken - Town Hall
Mary’s buttermilk fried chicken, smashed potatoes, corn maque choux, bacon gravy. $25 (comped)

So this dish was comped because the kitchen had overcooked the first batch and didn’t want to serve it. I can respect a kitchen (or management) that refuses to serve mis-cooked food, bravo. But I felt REALLY bad for my roommate who had to wait while everyone else ate their entrees because fried chicken takes a long time (he was birthday boy). When it came out, this batch also seemed overcooked so I’m not sure it was worth the wait. The batter was bland but it was at least crispy. I was not a fan of this dish overall. (The fried chicken at Wayfare Tavern is WAY better.)

Seared salmon filet – Curbside Cafe

Seared salmon filet - Curbside Cafe
With Curbside orange salsa, served with mashed potatoes and sauteed rainbow kale. Chef Special (soup + entree) $20
Curbside Cafe, San Francisco CA

I tend to steer clear of pan seared salmon at restaurants because, more often than not, they come out dry and disgusting. This was surprising moist and juicy so I was happy. The potatoes were silky and lovely and the orange salsa was packed with flavor. Pretty yummy!

Free range half chicken – Curbside Cafe

Free range half chicken - Curbside Cafe
With tarragon white wine cream sauce, served with “Gratin Dauphinois” and sauteed spinach. Chef Special (soup + entree) $18
Curbside Cafe, San Francisco CA

This was such a delicious dish at a great value! I was surprised at how moist, tender, and flavorful the chicken was. I was a little skeptical of this restaurant at first, but they really delivered on the food. The gratin dauphinois was super rich and creamy (as it should be) and the cream sauce was perfect for the chicken. This plate was definitely tasty and prepared wonderfully.

Crawfish and bacon poutine – Fins on the Hoof

Crawfish and bacon poutine - Fins on the Hoof
Fresh cut fries, crawfish and house-cured bacon gravy, cheese curds, peas, spring onions. $10
Fins on the Hoof, San Francisco CA

Omg, this was delicious! The fries were crispy and well-cooked and the toppings were amazing. This had so much flavor and I initially thought that it would be super heavy and gross, but it actually wasn’t! The large fluffy cheese curds along with the peas and scallions helped to break up the fried ingredients and gravy. It was a great well-balanced poutine. I want some more!

Nola frites – Nola

Nola frites - Nola
Crispy fried russet and sweet potatoes, fried okra, zucchini sticks, cool ranch, spicy ketchup, bbq sauce. Happy hour $6
Nola, Palo Alto CA

When we saw that this was only six bucks on the menu, we assumed that it was gonna be a small sampler plate. OMG, this bowl was packed with food! I think my heart is constricting just remembering it. I was actually surprised at how well everything was fried though. Nothing was really greasy or limp, and everything tasted pretty good! Well done, Nola.

Another huge scramble from Judy’s Café. They jam-pack the ingredients into their scrams so it’s mostly filling than egg. I don’t mind one bit! 🙂
