Soul Fish platter – Soul Fish Cafe

Soul Fish platter - Soul Fish Cafe
Fried catfish, shrimp, and crawfish served with hushpuppies and cucumber salad. $14.75
Soul Fish Cafe, Memphis TN

Omg, this was SO much fried food! I liked most of it, but the shrimp and crawfish were kinda dry. The hushpuppies were also kinda greasy. I’m glad I chose the cucumber salad for something more fresh to balance all the fried items. The fried catfish was probably the most decent part of this platter.

Yazoo catfish creole – BB King’s Blues Club

Yazoo catfish creole - BB King's Blues Club
Blackened imported catfish served over shrimp and crawfish rice and creole sauce, biscuit. $16.79
BB King’s Blues Club, Memphis TN

This dish was really flavorful and I liked that the creole sauce had a bit of a kick to it. The catfish, unfortunately, was on the dry side so that was disappointing. We were also seated at a horrible table even though the club wasn’t very full when we arrive and throughout our stay. #fail

Crawfish beignets - Brenda's French Soul Food
OMG, these were frickin’ amazing! These crawfish beignets are definitely heaven sent pouches of flavorful goodness. The filling is a cheesy gooey mess with chunks of delicious crawfish, and the beignet dough is wonderfully light and fluffy and covered in slap-yo-face spices. The addition of the scallions in the filling puts it over the top. These puppies are super rich, but you really can’t have just one! 🙂

Creole Bloody Mary - Brenda's French Soul Food

Creole Bloody Mary: garnished with creole spices and pickled okra. $7
Ugh, this bloody mary was a major let-down. IT was all tomato juice with no hint of alcohol and it wasn’t spicy AT ALL! It didn’t have any creole flavor and was actually bland. We had to add lots of hot sauce to make it somewhat decent. Lame!

Crawfish and bacon poutine – Fins on the Hoof

Crawfish and bacon poutine - Fins on the Hoof
Fresh cut fries, crawfish and house-cured bacon gravy, cheese curds, peas, spring onions. $10
Fins on the Hoof, San Francisco CA

Omg, this was delicious! The fries were crispy and well-cooked and the toppings were amazing. This had so much flavor and I initially thought that it would be super heavy and gross, but it actually wasn’t! The large fluffy cheese curds along with the peas and scallions helped to break up the fried ingredients and gravy. It was a great well-balanced poutine. I want some more!

Spicy soft shell crawfish maki - Sushi Ran
I thought this sushi roll was really fun and delicious! I’d never had crawfish sushi before. The crawfish was cute and crunchy and I loved the umami tobiko and shiso. This roll had so many great flavors, noms!
