Brunch has got to be one of my favorite meals! Local Mission Eatery is a great relaxed spot in The Mission for great food and friendly service. You order your food at the register and they bring it to your table. They share the space with Knead Bakery so there are plenty of delicious breakfast treats waiting for you!

These cocktails were a little expensive but pretty tasty. I was pleasantly surprised at how spicy the Dragonfire martini was – definitely chest-warming.

These were SO weird and totally not what we expected. The crab salad had a really weird texture, flavor, and color. And the grilled tomatoes were super cold. I was not a fan. 😦

Blue Sunset Palio
Blue sunset cocktail. Complimentary with voucher. I’m not sure what was in this thing, and I don’t want to know. It was horrible! We couldn’t even drink it even though it was free!

We came to Palio for happy hour drinks and snacks. Omg, I wish we hadn’t. The drinks were lame and the food was totally uninspired.

Looking up the side of the Sheraton Old San Juan from the balcony of Palio Restaurant. This is the hotel we stayed at in San Juan. It was a little out-dated, but it had a small casino and all the basics.

Silverfox and I ducked into Restaurante Triana to grab a lazy, afternoon drink. We had been walking all morning and decided that we needed a reward, lol. The sangria there was pretty good and the service was very friendly.

San Juan Gate

The red San Juan Gate. Back in the day, this was the main entrance to the city. On the ceiling of the gate there is an inscription that reads, “Benedictus qui venit in nomine domini” which translates to “blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”.

This was the weirdest sandwich I’ve ever had. The combination of ingredients wasn’t necessarily bad, but the it made for a dense mass with an odd texture. I would have preferred less of the sandwich and more of the delicious watermelon salad!

Discoverer statue Plaza de Colon

“Discoverer” statue of Christopher Columbus at the Plaza de Colon. This plaza marks what I think is the entrance to the main section of Old San Juan. Most of the traffic into this area passes by this plaza on the way to the nearby hotels and restaurants. The square isn’t very large, but the pillar and statue in the middle of the square stands prominently over the neighboring buildings.

This tasted all right, but the mahi mahi was starting to get squishy and have a grainy texture. The flavors were there though.

San Juan Bay
Looking out onto the San Juan Bay along the Paseo de la Princesa. This was near the start of a pleasant waterfront stroll on the Paseo. The shade trees were abundant in this section, but were nonexistent on the latter portion of the Paseo.

These tasted weak and watered down. I did enjoy the flavor of the house margarita at least, but the caipiroska was forgettable.

View of the green building across the street from our table inside St. Germain. I loved all the brightly painted buildings in this town. They helped create a fun atmosphere while walking around.

Even though this was similar to the churrasquitos, I liked it better because the fish had a better texture and was warmer than the steak. Still not a taco, but good enough.

Looking down towards the red Puerta de San Juan (San Juan Gate) at nighttime. We walked the Paseo de la Princesa the following day. That’s the waterfront path which runs in front of the San Juan Gate.
