Chicken fried soul sandwich – Soul Groove

Chicken fried soul sandwich - Soul Groove
Bacon-wrapped and buttermilk battered chicken breast, fried and served between maple infused waffles with jalapeño cole slaw and Jay’s spicy maple barbecue sauce. $8
Soul Groove, San Francisco CA

The chicken was really flavorful and juicy. So juicy that it was pretty drippy, but I liked it! The description is very misleading though since there are no waffles to be seen, just a regular bun. Very odd! Or maybe they gave me the wrong sandwich, but all of their sandwiches indicate waffles(!).

Mini burger – Super Duper Burgers

Mini burger - Super Duper Burgers
One 4 ounce patty, ground daily all natural Niman Ranch beef with fried egg. “Everything on it” with lettuce, tomato, red onions, Super sauce, and cheese. $7
Super Duper Burgers, San Francisco CA

This egg was cooked more than they usually cook them. Usually the yolk is shiny yellow throughout. Oh well, it was late at night and I don’t think I minded too much. I just needed some late-night grub!

Big Hot Mess – Heritage

Big Hot Mess - Heritage
Bbq pork belly, poached egg, potatoes, smoked cream cheese, tomato aioli, $14
Heritage, Richmond VA

The service here was horrendous and so was this dish! It was truly a hot mess. The egg was the lightest poach I’ve ever seen. The albumen was still SO translucent and slimy. The smoked cream cheese (and there was a lot of it) had a horrible grainy texture and the flavor was overwhelming. Suffice it to say I was disgusted and will never return to this horrible place.

Chicken pot pie – The Grove

Chicken pot pie - The Grove
House-roasted chicken breast, carrots, peas, topped with savory oregano pastry crust. $12.50
The Grove, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this was tasty and comforting! I just wish that the bottom also had pastry crust because that’s some of the most delicious parts of a chicken pot pie – the broth soaked, buttery crust on the bottom!

Chicken pot pie - The Grove
Perfect dome of pastry!

Hummus and laffa – Zahav

Hummus with daily topping - Zahav
Mesibah menu $53 per person
Zahav, Philadelphia PA

If I recall correctly, the daily topping for the hummus was some sort of mushroom mixture, but I could be wrong. Regardless, I remember that it tasted amazing and I couldn’t get enough!

Laffa bread - Zahav
Laffa bread baked in wood-burning oven. Omg, this bread was out of this world! I could eat this every day for sure!
