Crudo sampler – Bar Crudo

Crudo sampler - Bar Crudo
(Left to right) Arctic char: horseradish crème fraiche, wasabi tobiko, dill. Scallop: pineapple quince, roasted parsnip, lime caviar yuzu vinaigrette. Butterfish: roasted tomato aioli, asparagus coins, castelvetrano olives, citrus. Yellowtail: grapefruit, fennel, black garlic aioli, meyer lemon. Crudo for 2 $28
Bar Crudo, San Francisco CA

I’ve had this sampler before and it wasn’t as good this time around. The fish didn’t seem as fresh and they were a bit clunky on the plate. The flavors were really complex, interesting and very different between preparations. My favorite was probably the arctic char which is surprising because I’m not a huge horseradish/wasabi fan. I just thought this portion ate the cleanest and was refreshing.

Seafood combination clay pot – Makli Chinese Cuisine

Seafood combination clay pot - Makli Chinese Cuisine
Combination of scallop, prawn, cod fish, black mushroom, deep fried tofu. $11
Makli Chinese Cuisine, San Francisco CA

For eleven bucks, this was great! There was plenty of seafood and everything was tender and juicy. Not old and tough like some seafood dishes from cheap Chinese restaurants you sometimes encounter. The sauce was also very tasty and not overpowering.

Seafood poke – Rikki Rikki

Seafood poke - Rikki Rikki
Chopped various seafood and cucumber dressed with spicy soy sauce. Happy hour $4.95
Rikki Rikki, Kirkland WA

This place has a great happy hour with plenty of discounted food and drinks! That’s probably why one of sisters frequents this place, hehe. The poke was pretty tasty. It was more of a salad with some chopped fish on top, but I didn’t mind because it cost less than five bucks. The fish tasted fresh and the soy dressing was good.

Ciopinno – Cafe Renzo

Ciopinno - Cafe Renzo
Clams, mussels, calamari, prawns and fresh fish sautéed in a tomato garlic broth. $23
Cafe Renzo, Palo Alto CA

Meh, this was ok. Definitely not the best ciopinno I’ve had. The sauce was a bit salty and some of the seafood were overcooked, but the flavors were there. I wasn’t feeling the love from this seafood stew though.

L’Epigramme, Paris FR

Mmm, another beautiful and delicious dish from L’Epigramme! It was a simple preparation but the fish was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments tasted amazing. The crispy polenta was warm and comforting, and the sauce worked well with the sablefish. Noms!

Dungeness crab – Craw Station

House cajun dungeness crab - Craw Station
With extra spicy house cajun seasoning. $37
Craw Station, San Francisco CA

OMG, this crab was spicy! I can handle pretty spicy food, but the waitress wasn’t kidding when she warned me that this was “dynamite” spicy. I kinda loved it but my mouth was burning at the end. I actually tried to spoon as much of the sauce as possible onto each bite of crab because I really enjoyed the heat and the seasoning was very flavorful. Every once in a while I would have to switch to the lemon pepper crab to cool down a bit, lol!

Half dozen oysters - The Walrus and the Carpenter
3 Sea Cow oysters (right), Hammersley Inlet, WA. 3 Treasure Cove oysters (left), Case Inlet, WA. Served with a mignonette and fresh horseradish. Happy hour $12.39
The Walrus and the Carpenter, Seattle WA

These little oysters were delicious! I sat at the oyster bar during happy hour and this place was packed. I waited over 30 minutes for a seat to open up but it was worth it. I will say that there was a little bit of shell debris in some of my oysters, but that was easily forgivable for their freshness. The service here was also top notch. The guy behind the bar was great as was the hostess!

Hmm, this was kinda gross! It had a weird flavor and a mushy texture. Not one of their successful tacos, yuck.

West coast oysters – Anchor & Hope

West coast oysters - Anchor & Hope
Lil’ Skookum WA, Fanny Bay BC, and Kumamoto WA. $17.50
Anchor & Hope, San Francisco CA

I met some co-workers out for happy hour at Anchor and Hope one day. The bar area was packed during that time of day, omg! I tried a few things, but by the time David arrived happy hour was over and we still wanted more oysters. We ordered a sampling of west coast oysters because we prefer the smaller sized variety from that area. I remember that they tasted pretty good, but they weren’t properly cleaned and there were a few shell shards in the half shell. Lame.
