Breakfast platter – The WestWood

Breakfast platter - The WestWood
Levain bread, prosciutto, chevre, deviled eggs, brown sugar-glazed bacon, pickled vegetables, fresh fruit. $14
The WestWood, San Francisco CA

I am torn about this place. The food was decent, but the wervice was really mixed. I think the two owners(?) were running service that morning and the older white-haired man was really nice, but the younger dark-haired man was rude and unattentive. I liked the variety of this breakfast platter, but I’m still not certain that the cheese was actually goat cheese. I asked for confirmation, but the affirmative still seemed unsure. It’s also really dark in the back so you should request to sit outside or near the front if you want to enjoy the bright sunny weather for a leisurely weekend brunch. Otherwise, it feels like you’re dining in a cave.

House charcuterie – Beast and the Hare

Coppa, pork shoulder with smoked pimenton and garlic. Bresaola, beef loin cured in juniper, thyme and bordeaux brine. Duck breast, buried in spices 5 days then apple wood smoke. Served with grilled bread, pickled vegetables, and coarse mustard. 3 for $16
Beast and the Hare, San Francisco CA

Now this is what I call a charcuterie plate! SO DELICIOUS!!! All the meats were amazing and the grilled bread, mustard, and pickled veggies really added to the enjoyment of this plate. I’d have to say that the duck breast was my favorite! It was smokey, tender, fatty, and just perfect. NOMS! I definitely have to go back to try some of the other cured meats.

Smokehouse baby back ribs – Brookwood Farms BBQ

Smokehouse baby back ribs - Brookwood Farms BBQ
With macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and a fried pickle. $11.99
Brookwood Farms BBQ, Charlotte/Douglas International Airport (CLT)

Again, wow! The restaurants at CLT sure know how to pack your plate at really good values. Twelve bucks wouldn’t get you much at most airports, but this was a whole lotta food! I loved the mac ‘n cheese, and the ribs tasted decent but they had an odd texture. Everything together was maybe a little too salty for my taste.

The Citadel sandwich – East Bay Deli

Corn bread - Jestine's Kitchen
I’m not sure if it was the actual corn bread or the honey butter that made these SO good, but they were irresistible! I could have eaten the entire basket all by myself!

Sweet homemade pickles - Jestine's Kitchen
Sweet homemade pickles. Complimentary. I’d rather have these free, delicious pickles than free dinner rolls any day!

The pressed Cubano – Legends of San Francisco

Panini with thinly sliced ham, swiss cheese and sliced pickle, then spread with mustard and grilled on herbed focaccia bread with Classic Lays potato chips. $11.99
Legends of San Francisco Bar & Grill, San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

I was NOT impressed. The sandwich as super salty and the ham tasted like low-quality supermarket deli meat. The cheese wasn’t even melted all the way through! Ugh, Terminal 1 really needs to step it up on the food front!

House-made fried pickles – The Dancing Pig

House-made fried pickles - The Dancing Pig
Pickle chips and a jalapeno aioli, made right here. $4.95
The Dancing Pig, San Francisco CA

House-made fried pickles - The Dancing Pig
I really wanted to like this place because there are no other true bbq joints in The Castro. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre and the service was HORRENDOUS! It took forever to put in our order and another lifetime to finally get our drinks. Another table was seated next to us 10 minutes after we had been seated and they were able to order and get their drinks before us. That’s unacceptable! As far as these pickles go, they were good but I wasn’t amazed. They were a little greasy, but not too bad. The jalapeno aioli could have used a little more heat.

Historic Castro Theatre
The historic Castro Theatre. I love this old movie theater. They still keep the tradition of having the organ player before shows. They play some pretty cool old movies and participate in most of the citywide Film Festivals. The interior is beautiful with amazing light fixtures and artwork.

Big King meal deal – Burger King

Big King meal deal - Burger King
Big King hamburger with 2 flame grilled beef patties, crispy lettuce, sliced onions, pickles, American cheese and Big King sauce. Meal with small fries and small Diet Coke. £3.99
Burger King, London ENGLAND

I guess BK in London has a different “King of the Day” sandwich for each day of the week. Mondays are Big King cheeseburger days! The burger seems much smaller than how the product description on their website reads. Hmm… It tasted like Burger King though! Sometimes fast food chains taste differently in other countries, but even the ketchup tasted the same here.

Angus beef burger - Cat Cora Kitchen
I ordered with burger cooked medium/medium-rare and you can see that it’s still a little pink in the middle and super juicy, noms! I will say that the patty could have used a little more seasoning, but it was very good. The sweet potato fries were nicely fried and delicious!
