Seafood linguine – Firewood Cafe

Seafood linguine - Firewood Cafe
Clams, prawns, calamari, salmon sautéed with garlic and olive oil in a light tomato sauce. $14.95
Firewood Cafe, San Francisco CA

I like Firewood because it’s an easy and comfortable place to grab a nice, hearty meal. The food isn’t fancy but it’s consistent and generally tasty. This pasta was good and they included a decent amount of proteins. They also give you plenty of food so I always have leftovers.

Maccaronara – A16

Ragu napoletana, house-made ricotta salata. $14
A16, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this pasta was delicious! I don’t think I’ve had this type of pasta before and I really liked the texture of it. The house-made ricotta salata was also pretty amazing with the awesome ragu. So good!

A16, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this pasta was delicious and it had a great earthy quality. The ricotta gnocchi were perfect pillows of goodness, and it was cool that it was served with mushroom broth. I haven’t had gnocchi this way before and it was refreshing.

House made cavatelli – Ad Hoc

House made cavatelli - Ad Hoc
Sage pork sausage, wilted tuscan kale, meyer lemon. Pre fixe dinner $52 each
Ad Hoc, Yountville CA

The texture of the cavatelli was great. It was firm and the shape was really fun. I loved the earthy flavors from the kale and pork sausage. This made a great accompaniment to the main courses.

Man of Leisure cocktail - Ad Hoc

Pumpkin gnocchi – Wine Kitchen

Pumpkin gnocchi - Wine Kitchen
Maitake mushroom, beets, arugula, goat cheese, pumpkin seeds. $13
Wine Kitchen, San Francisco CA

These were really good and earthy tasting with the pumpkin and maitake mushrooms. I think maitakes are some of my favorite mushrooms because they have a wonderful texture and flavor. The gnocchi was a bit on the soft side but they were still nice and airy. And I could have done without the toasted pumpkin seeds though.

Spaghetti – Jollibee

Spaghetti - Jollibee
Sweet style meat sauce with ham, sausage, and ground beef served over noodles and topped with cheese. Side 50 PHP
Jollibee, Manila PHILIPPINES

Mmm, I don’t think most Americans have ever tasted Filipino style spaghetti, but it’s the best! I love the sweet meaty sauce, and it’s super addictive. I could eat a huge plate of this and still go back for more. NOMS!

Bucatini with meatballs - Mozzeria
Veal-pork meatball, pomodoro, grana padano. Pre fixe menu
Mozzeria, San Francisco CA

Finally, something that was delicious at Mozzeria! I loved the texture of the pasta. It had a nice bite and was beautifully made. The meatballs were nice and big, and super juicy and flavorful. Unlike the other things I’ve posted from here, I’d eat this again.

Spaghettini with tuna hearts – Incanto

Spaghettini with tuna hearts - Incanto
With Sardinian cured tuna heart shavings, egg yolk, and parsley.
Incanto, San Francisco CA

Wow, this pasta was SO good! I’ve never had shaved tuna hearts before, but they tasted mighty fine. For me, they were more a textural component than flavorful. It was fun to mix the egg yolk into the pasta ourselves then portion the dish out.

Andean gnocchi – Roxy’s Cafe

Andean gnocchi - Roxy's Cafe
Yucca dumplings in mushroom medley, locatelli, homemade garlic truffle oil. 10-course chef’s tasting menu $75
Roxy’s Cafe, San Francisco CA

Yucca gnocchi?! This was pretty cool and the gnocchi tasted great. I was afraid that the texture was gonna be off, but it was very similar to that of traditional gnocchi. The mushrooms rocked and the garlic truffle oil brought everything together. Mmm…

Chitarra bachata – Roxy’s Cafe

Chitarra bachata - Roxy's Cafe
Sweet plantain chitarra noodles, chorizo and fresh farm hen egg sauce, cheese and flower garnish. 10-course chef’s tasting menu $75
Roxy’s Cafe, San Francisco CA

I guess that chitarra is a type of pasta cutter and not a Thundercat (I learn something new every day!), so these were definitely homemade noodles. The noodles had an interesting, soft texture that I quite enjoyed and the chorizo was delicious. I thought this was very inventive, but what do I know… 🙂

Omg, this was amazing! I loved that it had both a pea puree and whole peas. The pancetta added a wonderful smokiness, and the noodles had a beautiful texture. Noms!

Tagliolini mare e monte – Cafe Renzo

Tagliolini mare e monte - Cafe Renzo
Homemade tagliolini noodles served with chanterelle mushrooms, tiger prawns, asparagus, parmesan in a light white wine garlic sauce. $19
Cafe Renzo, Palo Alto CA

Ugh, where were the chanterelles?! Either they completely forgot to add them or they slyly substituted a bunch of asparagus (which wasn’t indicated in the menu) instead. In either case, that was LAME! Overall, this was just ok anyway. The prawns were on the verge of being tough and the sauce wasn’t all that exciting.
