Croque Madame – Bisou

Croque Madame Bisou

Ham and cheese grilled sandwich served on a hot pain levain topped with a sunny side egg, served with sauteed potatoes and salad. $9
Bisou, San Francisco

This is a simple, but delicious, breakfast dish! This version, however, was a little dry. The bread was dry and crispy and the thin slice of ham with cheese was placed under the broiler for way too long. Or perhaps it had a long stay under the heat lamp during the busy brunch rush. Either way, I didn’t enjoy the result.

Spicy pork stone pot rice – Mom’s Tofu House

Project 365: Day 98

This is the penultimate day of my work trip in Charleston, yay! I fly back to San Francisco tomorrow morning. I’ve suggested to my co-instructor that we have a final dinner together to celebrate the end of the course. I think I’ll take him to The Glass Onion. I’ve been there before and the food is great and reasonably priced. They also have a varied selection so I’m sure that he’ll find something that he likes.

It’s been great teaching with him. He’s definitely nice enough and easy to talk to. He was mostly a hotel hermit though, but I didn’t mind since that allowed me to use the rental car whenever I wanted. Hehe!

Bbq pork fried rice – Grand Palace Restaurant

Project 365: Day 96

Argh, it’s back to work and teaching. At least there’s only a few more days before I fly back to San Francisco. I hope a get good reviews, hehe. After my weekend of yummy, low country food I’ve been craving fried food again, lol! I guess when you’re surrounded by it, it’s difficult not to think about it. I think for dinner I’ll try some chicken fingers from Raising Cane’s. Chicken fingers aren’t anything special, but we don’t have this chain in the Bay Area (or California?) so I wanna give it a try. I think I’ll also grab dinner at Smokey Bones for some bbq. You think I’d be bbq’d out by now!

Bbq pork fried rice Grand Palace Restaurant

Fried rice with eggs, green onion, and bbq pork.  $7.50
Grand Palace Restaurant, South San Francisco CA

Meh, kinda dry and not very flavorful. I’ll pass on this next time.

Egg salad sandwich – Starbucks

Project 365: Day 93

Yay, I’m SO glad it’s Friday! Now I get to take a break from work and relax a little bit, maybe see some of downtown Charleston this weekend. I’m feeling kind of restless so I’ll probably check out the downtown nightlife this evening. Can’t get crazy with the alcohol though since I’ll be driving.

Egg salad sandwich Starbucks

“Classic egg salad with dill, mustard, celery and lettuce on whole-wheat bread. This traditional lunchtime favorite is dressed with all the trimmings of a truly outstanding sandwich. Crunchy bits of celery, crispy lettuce, delicate hints of dill and a touch of mustard for extra zip. At once creamy, tangy and bright, this superb egg salad, served on hearty whole-wheat bread, makes a deliciously substantial meal.” $5.25
Starbucks, Kettleman City CA

Salmon benedict – Pinocchio In The Desert

Salmon benedict Pinocchio In The Desert

Salmon filet, poached eggs, english muffin, hollandaise sauce, with cottage cheese (instead of Pinocchio’s breakfast potatoes). $9.95
Pinocchio In The Desert, Palm Springs CA

This was NOT good! You can already tell from the weird color of the hollandaise that something is off. The salmon was dry and the sauce tasted weird. Boo, what happened to this place? I think I’ll give this place another go before I completely write them off.

Rice with egg rolls and grilled pork – Hometown Noodle 2

Project 365: Day 79

Today was the last sea day on the boat before returning to San Juan PR. I had mixed emotions – I was glad to be heading home after a long fun trip but sad to actually return to the real world. I’ll miss the constantly available food and waking up each morning to find myself at a new and exciting island. We decided to have a slow and relaxing day. We had brunch in the main dining room, had multiple snacks up in the Oceanview Cafe, played a slot tournment, played Bingo hosted by Jackie Beat, attend an Over The Rainbow T-Dance, had dinner in the main dining room, watched the Miss Richfield 1981 show (omg, SO funny!), packed our bags and called it a night.

Rice with egg rolls and grilled pork Hometown Noodle 2

Steamed rice, pickled carrots and radish, sliced cucumber, fried egg, egg rolls, and grilled pork with green onions. $8.95
Hometown Noodle 2, San Bruno CA

Hot chili oil Hometown Noodle 2

Hot chili oil.

Poached eggs and braised greens – Outerlands

Project 365: Day 75

Today we arrived in St. Georges, Grenada. We had a large breakfast at the Oceanview Cafe, then went ashore to explore the area adjacent to the cruise ship. We first walked into town to explore some of the markets, but the people were SUPER pushy trying to sell you spices and get into their cabs, so we turned around and walked up the hill to Fort George. After entering and looking around the mostly destroyed police department, we walked down the other side of the hill to explore The Crenage. We had a lovely lunch at BB’s Crabback Restaurant before surviving the Melville Street tunnel back to the cruise ship. We laid out on the pool deck, had food at the AquaSpa Cafe, ate an fun and inventive dinner at Qsine Restaurant, saw the Courtney Act perfromance, then finished it off at the Equinox Rising Dance Party.

Poached eggs and braised greens Outerlands

With yellow corn grits. $9
Outerlands, San Francisco

This was good, but standard. I was hoping that there would be something special to them, but they were straightforward.

Roasted red pepper salad – Canela

Project 365: Day 62

Tried out Canela for a pre-birthday celebration for Silverfox. My roommate had already been here and said that it was pretty good. We’re planning to have a nicer dinner in San Juan next week to really celebrate Silverfox’s birthday but it’s nice to go out and have a dinner closer to the actual date of his special day.

Roasted red pepper salad Canela

With apple, manchego cheese, walnut, flat leaf parsley, lemon, olive oil, egg. $8
Canela, San Francisco

This salad was really refreshing. I loved all the different components but I have to say that the Italian parsley was killer in this salad! In combination with the lemon, it really helped to brighten up the salad and gave it a fanastic flavor. I would definitely order this again!

Red sangria Canela

Red sangria. Bottle $21
I really enjoyed this sangria. It was overly sweet and the wine that they used had a great flavor. It wasn’t too bitter or funky tasting. Noms!

Classic breakfast – Wolfgang Puck Express

Classic breakfast Wolfgang Puck Express

Scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and wheat toast. $8.89
Wolfgang Puck Express, CMH Columbus OH

I was SO hungry and this was SO disappointing! The eggs were such a weird consistency, the toast was limp, the potatoes were boring, and they didn’t have bacon so I had to get sausage. Super lame! And they were so frickin’ slow!

Coffee Wolfgang Puck Express

Coffee. $1.69
I hated this cheap coffee cup.
