Bbq combo plate – 4505 Meats

Bbq combo plate - 4505 Meats
Brisket, smoked chicken, pork spare ribs, with B&B pickles, coleslaw, potato salad, white bread. $15
4505 Meats, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this combo plate was delicious! It’s a bit pricy for a food stand at lunch, but the meats are certainly quality. I was really surprised at how tender and smoky the chicken was. It almost looked undercooked, but it was so juicy and perfect. The brisket and spare ribs were also super tasty. Noms!

Empanadas – Fresca

Empanadas - Fresca
Peruvian aji de gallina, salsa criolla, hardboiled egg, olive, greens. $8
Fresca, San Francisco CA

These empanadas were really tasty and nicely priced at four bucks a piece. The crust was flaky and buttery and the Peruvian filling was delicious. Mmm…

Cocktails - Fresca

House Manhattan. $10

Fried chicken and waffles – Mission Bowling Club

Fried chicken and waffles - Mission Bowling Club
Salted chili, maple butter. $12
Mission Bowling Club, San Francisco CA

Ugh, I was NOT impressed! I’ve always said that the fried items at MBC are super greasy and this chicken was no exception. They were pretty gross and even the waffle was saturated in oil – yuck! I thought the salted chili was a cute substitute for the traditional hot sauce, but nothing could hide or counteract the overall greasiness of this dish.

Chicken nachos – Tacos Club

Nachos - Tacos Club
House-made corn chips covered with cheese, chicken, jalapenos, sour cream, black beans, and salsa. $11.70
Tacos Club, San Francisco CA

Mmm, these nachos were delicious! I liked that the quality of the ingredients was pretty good at Tacos Club, but you also pay a little more than other Mexican joints in the neighborhood.

Teriyaki chicken plate – Ono Hawaiian BBQ

Teriyaki chicken plate - Ono Hawaiian BBQ
Grilled boneless chicken with house teriyaki sauce, served with two scoops of rice, one scoop macaroni salad, and vegetables.
Ono Hawaiian BBQ, San Francisco CA

Meh, I wasn’t too impressed with this. The chicken was a bit dry and the teriyaki sauce too salty. I think I’ll stick to their regular bbq items next time.

Chicken and beef combo plate - Ono Hawaiian BBQ
Bbq chicken and bbq beef, served with two scoops of rice, one scoop macaroni salad, and vegetables.
Ono Hawaiian BBQ, San Francisco CA

Ugh, the beef was really dry and gristly! The chicken was ok. I appreciate that Hawaiian bbq is fatty but I think these were especially greasy, yuck. The scoop of macaroni salad did help to ease my disappointment.

Street tacos – Publico Urban Taqueria

Street tacos - Publico Urban Taqueria
Pollo asado and carne asada with salsa casera, red onion and cilantro. Each $2.29
Publico Urban Taqueria, San Francisco CA

Publico is a random food window in a shopping complex, but the food is pretty good and I love the salsa that they use. The tacos are a decent size and the price is great for a little shopping snack.

Big daddy ramen bowl – Hapa Ramen

Big daddy ramen bowl - Hapa Ramen
Pork, fried chicken, roasted vegetables, seaweed, and slow cooked egg, $14
Hapa Ramen, San Francisco CA

This ramen was good, but it wasn’t exceptional so I’m curious why it made the 7×7 list. The pork was tasty and nice and fatty. The fried chicken was bland and a bit oily. The soft boiled egg was perfectly cooked and still oozy inside. The roasted vegetables were good but tasted odd with the broth and actually made the broth taste bitter. The broth itself was a bit salty. The noodles had a great texture, and the soup was very hearty overall.

Buffalo chicken burger – Holy Cow!

Buffalo chicken burger - Holy Cow!
Breaded chicken fillet with chili sauce and lettuce, served with barbecue flavored fries. 210 PHP
Holy Cow!, Manila PHILIPPINES

I don’t know where the bĂ©arnaise sauce fits in, but they gave me an entire gravy boat of it, lol! I’m not sure that bĂ©arnaise screams bbq to me, but whatever. I’m not gonna judge another country’s interpretation of foreign cuisine. This burger was decent but I wish it had more chili sauce and none of the bĂ©arnaise sauce. The bbq flavored fries didn’t taste very bbq-y either.

Honey lemon chicken – Holy Cow!

Honey lemon chicken - Holy Cow!
Grilled chicken quarter with garlic rice and vegetables.
Holy Cow!, Manila PHILIPPINES

The chicken tasted fine, a little dry in some parts. But the yellow plate really bothered me for some reason. I thought it was an unfortunate color to serve food on especially with an ill-fitting cast iron plate on top.

Chicken inasal – Philippine Airlines

Chicken inasal - Philippine Airlines
Grilled chicken, steamed vegetables, rice, chicken jicama salad, dinner roll, mango parfait. Complimentary
Manila (MNL) to San Francisco (SFO), Philippine Airlines

Chicken inasal is a well known Ilonggo dish of marinated chicken that’s grilled. I don’t think I’d ever had it before, but this airplane version wasn’t very good. I don’t know what spices they used, but it was kind of sour and unpleasant tasting. I’m not sure how authentic the PAL version was, but I don’t think I’d eat it again if that was how it was supposed to taste.
