Loco moco – Namu Gaji

Loco moco - Namu Gaji
“We love eating loco moco. A Hawaiian staple, great for hangovers.” Marin Sun Farms grassfed beef patty, dashi gravy, sunny-side up egg over rice. $12
Namu Gaji, San Francisco CA

Meh, this was a disappointment. You couldn’t taste the dashi flavor in the gravy and the portion was super small. There’s so little food that it wouldn’t begin to cure a hangover! I was also confused why this came in a paper boat while they use real boards and dinnerware for everything else. This was my first time at Namu Gaji and I was definitely NOT impressed.

Francois Pinon Vouvray - Namu Gaji

Francois Pinon Vouvray “non-dose” NV (chenin blanc). $12
This sparkling wine tasted ok, but it was such a tiny pour for twelve bucks! Sheesh!

Grand slam of sliders – Escena Lounge & Grill

Grand slam of sliders - Escena Lounge & Grill
Crab cake, old bay tartar sauce. Pulled pork, jack and coke bbq sauce, slaw. Natural beef, cheddar, secret sauce, Achiote chicken, pulled spicy chicken, guacamole. Served with fries and a pickle. $12
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

Mmm, all these sliders were pretty good but I think the pulled pork was my favorite. I also enjoyed that they tried to differentiate the sliders by having different toppings and sauces.

Pulled pork sliders - Escena Lounge & Grill
Trio of pulled pork sliders. $9
Had to order these another day since I liked them so much and they’re a great value.

Classic New Mexican Frito pie – Chile Pies

Classic New Mexican Frito pie - Chile Pies
Ground beef, pinto beans, red chile, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese and crema served in a Frito bag! $8
Chile Pies, San Francisco CA

This is an upscale version of the delicious white-trash staple, but I think it missed the mark. There was so much lettuce and pico de gallo on top that you couldn’t really get into the “meat” of the dish which is the Fritos, beef and beans. Perhaps some things are better left unaltered…

Street tacos – Escena Lounge & Grill

Popcorn shrimp taco - Escena Lounge & Grill
Popcorn shrimp with cabbage slaw and salsa. $3
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

These tacos were pretty tasty and at $3 a pop they made the perfect afternoon snack! I know it’s kinda ghetto for me to admit it, but the popcorn shrimp was probably my favorite. I don’t eat a lot of fried seafood so perhaps I just had a craving for it that day, hehe.

Chicken tinga taco - Escena Lounge & Grill
Chicken tinga with guacamole and salsa. $3

Carne asada taco - Escena Lounge & Grill
Carne asada with guacamole and salsa. $3

Carne asada - El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana
Mexican style, thin cut beef steak seasoned, broiled and served with guacamole, refried beans and rice. $14.95
El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana, Palm Springs CA

Mmm, this was SO good! The beef was nice and tender and had great flavor. They advertise the cut was “thin”, but they’re actually pretty substantial. Yes please!

Bolognese – Pasta Pomodoro

Bolognese - Pasta Pomodoro
Rich beef, pork and porcini mushroom sauce tossed with rigatoni, topped with shaved pecorino. Lunch epxress with casesar salad $5.50
Pasta Pomodoro, San Francisco CA

I don’t know why, but the pasta at Pasta Pomodoro is always super comforting. Maybe that’s just the power of pasta, but I don’t think so. For a local chain restaurant, Pasta Pomodoro definitely presents a very tasty product!

Grilled focaccia - Pasta Pomodoro
Grilled focaccia with pesto and olive oil. Complimentary
SO good!

Mini burgers – Matchbox Palm Springs

Mini burgers - Matchbox Palm Springs

Hand-pattied certified angus beef, toasted brioche, pickles, and onion straws. Three for $9
Matchbox Palm Springs, Palm Springs CA

Thank goodness that we really liked our server/bartender because the food at Matchbox wasn’t all that good. These sliders were on the boring side – I mean they could have at least toasted and buttered the buns. The onion straws were also too thin to really enjoy and they quickly became soggy.

Beef enchirito – Taco Bell

Beef enchirito - Taco Bell
A warm, soft flour tortilla wrapped around seasoned beef, hearty beans, diced onion, real cheddar cheese, and tangy red sauce. 360 calories, 17g fat
Taco Bell, Palm Springs CA

The enchirito is another one of my favorite Taco Bell items probably because it’s SO saucey and cheesy! It goes down so easily during that late night “fourthmeal”, lol!

Nachos supreme – Taco Bell

Nachos supreme - Taco Bell
Crisp, freshly prepared daily tortilla chips covered with seasoned beef, hearty beans, warm nacho cheese sauce, diced ripe tomatoes, and reduced-fat sour cream. 430 calories, 23g fat
Taco Bell, Palm Springs CA

OK, this is why I’m definitely NOT a foodie. I love me some Taco Bell after a night of partying, lol! I always drench my nachos supreme in a bunch of Fire sauce and go to town!

Prather Ranch burger – Starbelly

Prather Ranch burger - Starbelly
March 2, 2014. With aged cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, house cut fries and pickle, grilled sesame seed challah bun. $13
Starbelly, San Francisco CA

Apparently, Starbelly believes that their burger is SO amazing that it needs 1 hour to prepare it and get it to your table. Puh-lease! This was my final meal at Starbelly, and it wasn’t even that good. Time to move onto greener pastures.

Prather Ranch burger - Starbelly

Entrees – Wayfare Tavern

Butcher's filet - Wayfare Tavern
Butcher’s Filet: shallot confit, bone marrow bordelaise, crispy onion, marjoram. $28

This filet dish was SO rich and delicious! The meat was really tender and flavorful and the shallot confit was amazing!

Seared tuna special - Wayfare Tavern
Seared Tuna Special: roasted baby carrots and turnips, root puree and herbs.

Organic fried chicken - Wayfare Tavern
Organic Fried Chicken: buttermilk brine, roasted garlic, crispy woody herbs, lemon. $24

The fried chicken was probably everyone’s favorite entree at the table. It was SO flavorful, juicy and tender. The breading was super herby and the chicken was perfectly cooked!

Sonoma duck - Wayfare Tavern
Sonoma Duck: mustard green tortellini, chanterelles, double consomme, poached winter citrus. $30
