Spicy chorizo – Mikkeller Bar

Spicy chorizo - Mikkeller Bar
Artisanal spicy chorizo, served with pan on tomate, coarse mustard. €4.50
Mikkeller Bar, Barcelona SPAIN

I loved the texture of this chorizo! I could have sworn they were flash fried, but I’m now sure. Perhaps they were just really dry cured. Regardless, they were delicious and their pan con tomate were some of the best of the trip.

Steak tartare – Belcampo Meat Co.

Steak tartare - Belcampo Meat Co.
Lean grass-fed beef, shallot, capers, Shotgun sauce, egg yolk. $16
Belcampo Meat Co., Larkspur CA

Hmm, this wasn’t my favorite. I thought that the texture of the beef was too heavy, dense, and slimy. And it needed more seasoning! There are better things on their menu, so I don’t know why this tartare deserves a spot on the 7×7 Big Eat SF list. 😦

Chilli methi keemar thali – The Chilli Pickle

Chilli methi keemar thali - The Chilli Pickle
Mutton shoulder mince Punjabi curry with red chilli, fenugreek leaf, and garam masala. Thali served with rice, butter naan, dhokla, snacks, dal of the day, shorba, raita, pickle, chutney, and a dessert. Railway Thali £14.95
The Chilli Pickle, Brighton ENGLAND

OMG, this was SO much food, and it was really delicious (and a great value)! The lamb curry was frickin’ amazing too – rich and dark, and super flavorful. I liked most of the accompaniments (especially the daal of the day), but the two creamy ones had a weird texture for me. If I had known that the thali had so much food, I wouldn’t have ordered appetizers. Noms!

Butter naan - The Chilli Pickle
Butter naan.

Dungeness crab club – Barndiva

Dungeness crab club - Barndiva
Brioche, bacon, avocado, tomato, baby kale casesar salad, pecorino dressing, served with BD frites. $25
Barndiva, Healdsburg CA

I guess I liked this sandwich enough, but I thought there was too little crab. Also, this wasn’t what I was expecting as a brioche. It was too dense and not buttery enough. Sadly to say, this was probably the worst thing I’ve had at Barndiva. That just goes to show that everything is usually SO good and now I have high expectations.

Chimchimney souffle and sooty tops – Terre a Terre

Chimchimney souffle and sooty tops - Terre a Terre
Brighton Blue double baked soufflé wrapped in pickle powder butter parchment, loaded with charmer cheese cream, garlic oil and thyme baked Jerusalem artichokes. Served with salt toffee apple tattie pave pie, sage and onion, scrumpy beet brew neeps, pink krout and toasted buckwheat hazel oat cob crunch. £15.95
Terre a Terre, Brighton ENGLAND

I thought the concept of this dish was super cute, but I think there was just too much going on to really appreciate all the different components. The individual parts were delicious on their own, but the dish as a whole didn’t work for me. 😦
