Miso ramen – Ken Ken Ramen

Untitled
Rich taste. Blend of white and red miso base with pork and chicken stock. A slow cooked traditional Japanese style ramen. Topped with beautifully braised pork (cha-shu), nori, “onsen” soft boiled egg and assorted veggies. Home style noodles with imported flour from Hokkaido. $11
Ken Ken Ramen, San Francisco CA

This is what I’m talking about! The miso broth is SO rich and delicious. I love the onsen egg with the runny yolk center and the char siu. More please!

Maki sushi combo – Osho Japanese Cuisine

Project 365: Day 120

Not much to report today, just work as usual and the gym. I’m glad to be back into a routine with scheduled meals and quailty gym time!

Maki sushi combo Osho Japanese Cuisine
6 pieces California roll (imitation crab and avocado), 3 pieces kappa maki (cucumber), 2 pieces inari (sushi rice wrapped in sweet tofu skin). Served with miso soup, wasabi, pickled ginger, and soy sauce. $9.50
Osho Japanese Cuisine, San Francisco (SFO)

In terms of sushi at an airport, this was ok. Which means it didn’t suck like most airport sushi. I particularly liked the inari – it was sweet and moist. In fact, none of the items were particularly dry, a common theme to most airport sushi.

Tofu stone pot rice – Mom’s Tofu House

Project 365: Day 99

I’m SO glad to be back home!!! I’ve missed my bed. I’ve missed my dog. I’ve even missed the work office. And I’ve missed Silverfox! We’re going to have dinner tonight at Starbelly. I’m looking forward to eating a wonderfully delicious, California-cooked meal. I have to go into work tomorrow (Friday) and them I’ll have an entire weekend to relax and do nothing. Just sit around and enjoy being home.

Sushi lovers plate – Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

Sushi lovers plate Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

3 maguro (tuna), 3 sake (salmon), 3 hamachi (yellowtail), 3 unagi (eel), 3 hirame (halibut – we substituted this for the California roll). Served with miso soup. $33 + $3 substitution charge
Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar, Gahanna OH

This looks really pretty on the plate, but this wasn’t all that great in terms of fresh sushi. The fish was of OK quality and the pieces were super cold (recently defrosted? ew). I’m just glad that they didn’t taste fishy and old. I’m still hoping that I can get good sushi in Ohio! The service was friendly though. This restuarant was SO weird though because it had food from all different Asian countries. It’s like the corner shops in San Francisco that have burgers, Chinese food, and donuts! Can you really trust that they can make any of it authentically or decently?

Yang nyum tong dak – Mom’s Tofu House

Project 365: Day 57

Omg, this rain sucks! It’s been raining off and on all morning and, frankly, I’m tire of it! Thank goodness I’m leaving for Ohio tomorrow. I wanted to go for a walk in the afternoon, but I guess that’s no longer in my plans. I hate getting wet outside!

Hitting the gym after work and stopping my the store to buy some stuff for Codes. Also need to stop by the bank to grab money for the house keeper tomorrow. Then Silverfox is coming over, yay!

Yang nyum tong dak Mom's Tofu House

Mom’s Tofu House, South San Francisco CA

Mmm, the cold rainy weather got me in the mood for something warm and comforting. I couldn’t resist ordering the chicken wings. Never had these before and they were SO good! I loved the flavorful sauce. It’s a little bit sweet and has a hint of spiciness to it, noms!

Miso glazed sea bass – Andalu

Miso glazed sea bass Andalu
Bite sized pieces of grilled sea bass served in lettuce cups with sweet soy and black sesame seeds.
Andalu, San Francisco

The miso glaze and sweet soy were wonderfully delicious in this dish.  Unfortunately, the sea bass was overcooked so it was on the hard and dry side.  Otherwise, Andalu serves up another simple and delicious dish!
