Chorizo sausage scramble – Portage Bay Cafe

Chorizo sausage scramble - Portage Bay Cafe
House-made chorizo sauasage, organic bell peppers and tomatoes scrambled with three eggs and topped with queso fresco, sour cream, homemade slasa and fresh green onion. Served with a warmed flour tortilla instead of toast. $14
Portage Bay Cafe, Seattle WA

This place was packed with a line out the door! Thank goodness we had reservations. I don’t completely agree why this place is super popular though. I get that they use fresh, mostly healthy ingredients but their preparations aren’t anything special. I expected a little bit more considering their shear popularity. The food was good, but I thought it was overpriced for what it was. And the service was random and slow at times.

Ribeye steak and eggs – Twenty Five Lusk

Ribeye steak and eggs - Twenty Five Lusk
Two eggs poached, clamshell mushroms, hollandaise, thyme reduction. Gilt City brunch menu
Twenty Five Lusk, San Francisco CA

Mmm, so good! The hollandaise sauce was a beautiful color and tasted amazing as did the thyme reduciton. The ribeye was beautifully cooked and of a decent size. This was definitely a filling dish. Noms!

Lobster benedict – Twenty Five Lusk

Lobster benedict - Twenty Five Lusk
Poached eggs, prosciutto, sauce hollandaise, Maine lobster, arugula, English muffin. Gilt City brunch menu
Twenty Five Lusk, San Francisco CA

SO nommy! I thought that they would skimp of the lobster, but there were large pieces of whole lobster in there. Mmm, I want more!

Huevos rancheros – Circa 59

Huevos rancheros - Circa 59
Over medium eggs, corn tortilla, chorizo, chili verde, avocado. $14
Circa 59, Palm Springs CA

I guess Circa 59 tried to make a fancy version of huevos rancheros, but I was not impressed. The eggs came out fried and not over medium, the tortillas were super greasy and had a weird gummy texture, and the chorizo was WAY too salty. Lame! This was a brunch I wish I could take back.

Jamon serrano – Tinto

Jamon serrano - Tinto
Andalusian mountain cured ham, egg salad, guindilla peppers. Summer prix-fixe menu $38
Tinto, Palm Springs CA

I can’t really complain about jamon serrano – I love the stuff! I really liked the texture of th eggs salad too. It was super silky and very tasty.

Our overall experience at this restaurant was a mess though. We had an early reservation because we had a flight next morning, and it was rocky from the get-go. We were the first people in the restaurant and the clueless hostess decides that she wants to sit us at some sad table surrounded by two rows of booths. Hello! This place was pretty empty throughout our dinner so I’m not sure why she wanted to seat us at such a shitty table in the first place. Thank goodness our server let us move to a more comfortable table. I will say that he was amazing – very friendly and accommodating. If it wasn’t for him, I think this dinner would have been a complete bust.

Breakfast sandwich – Big Ed’s Alley Inn

Breakfast sandwich - Big Ed's Alley Inn
Bacon, eggs, cheese and mayo of white bread. Served with home fries. $8.95
Big Ed’s Alley Inn, Reno NV

I think this just about gave me a heart attack, lol! The sandwich bread was definitely grilled on the same area on the grill where the bacon and eggs where first cooked. And that healthy slathering of mayo just about stopped my heart. If I was younger, I’d say this was awesome but sadly I’m getting old and have to admit that this was a bit too greasy and fatty for me…

California benedict - Peg's Glorified Ham N Eggs
Glorified eggs benedict with turkey, avocado, tomato, and hollandaise. Served with fruit. $11.99
Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs, Reno NV

This was also gross. The hollandaise had a weird texture and flavor and the avocado had a moldy black section. The deli turkey didn’t really add anything to the dish. I liked the fruit I guess.

Ham and eggs – Big Ed’s Alley Inn

Ham and eggs - Big Ed's Alley Inn
Ham steak with scrambled eggs, served with home fries and an English muffin. $9.25
Big Ed’s Alley Inn, Reno NV

This is definitely a greasy spoon! Now I’m a huge fan of greasy spoons, but not by this one. While the service was super friendly and accomodating, the food was really low quality and SUPER greasy even for my taste. The home fries were also overcooked and dry, and the English muffin was drenched in butter.

Peg’s glorified huevos rancheros – Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs

Peg's glorified huevos rancheros - Peg's Glorified Ham N Eggs
Monterey skillet breakfast served with golden hash browns, pico de gallo, cabbage slaw, fresh pinto beans and warm tortillas. $8.99
Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs, Reno NV

I had high hopes for this place since it had SO many great Yelp reviews. Wow, were they wrong! The food was marginal at best. This breakfast platter was definitely gigantic, but I’d rather have a little bit of good food than a large pile of crappy food. The eggs were cooked all the way through, the hash browns were also overdone and hard, and the beans were flavorless. Lame, a major disappointment! At least the cantaloupe was sweet.

Southern style deviled eggs - Eureka Restaurant and Lounge
With Nueske’s bacon. $6

Mmm, these little morsels were SO yummy! Deviled eggs grossed me out as a kid, but now I can’t stop ordering at restaurants. I’m still a little weary of them as potlucks, lol!

El Salvadorian style chorizo eggs scramble - The WestWood
With queso fresco, green onions, and home fries. $11

Not sure what made this dish El Salvadorian style, but it tasted decent. Perhaps adding queso fresco and chorizo? The home fries were cook beautifully though and oh so flavorful!
