Ahi burger – Gott’s Roadside

Project 365: Day 122

Had an amazing day so far! David and I are having a Cinco de Sonoma weekend. We started the day with lunch at Farley Bar in Sausalito, then made it to Gloria Ferrer and Viansa before checking into The Lodge in Sonoma. Our room is cute and overlooks the pool area. Now we’re just relaxing before heading to LaSalette for a Portuguese tapas dinner. Life is good!

Ahi burger Gott's Roadside
5 ounces of fresh ahi tuna seared rare with ginger wasabi mayo and Asian slaw on a toasted egg bun. $14.99
Gott’s Roadside, San Francisco

Mmm, so good! This burger is pretty delicious. The ginger wasabi mayo and the slaw have so much flavor. The piece of tuna is quite large (which may account for the price), but it was a little too cold in the center to make this burger absolutely amazing. Again, I love that the egg bun soaks up all the yummy flavors.

Ferry Building, San Francisco
Outside the beautiful Ferry Building at the end of Market Street. I love its Farmers’ Market with all the beautiful produce stands and yummy food vendors.

Fried shrimp sliders – T. Murray’s Bar and Kitchen

Toasted, buttered egg buns with battered and deep fried shrimp, tomato, aioli.
T. Murray’s Bar and Kitchen, Columbus OH

These little sliders packed a lot of flavor! The shrimp were moist and tender, but perhaps a tad on the greasy side. I loved the aioli and the fresh tomato that helped to brighten up this deliciously fattening slider. The sliders constantly change, but I’m glad we got this variety that particular night – pretty tasty!

Project 365: Day 38

Had a slow and lazy morning – perfect! Went down to the Ferry Building to get some food and peruse the Farmers’ Market. Ended up at Gott’s for a heavier-than-I-wanted-but-sinfully-delicious lunch. I hit the gym afterward and it felt good after eating burgers. Now doing laundry and general cleaning before meeting friends for drinks and dinner later. My life is SO difficult, lol!

Cheeseburger and sweet potato fries Gott's Roadside

Fresh ground Niman Ranch beef patty cooked medium well, a little pink inside when served with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and a secret sauce on a toasted egg bun. $7.99
Chili spice-dusted sweet potato fires served with house-made ranch sauce. $3.99
Gott’s Roadside, San Francisco

This was SO good! The burger was tender and juicy and I love their secret sauce. It kinda tastes like a nicer version of Thousand Island. Some people don’t like egg buns because it has a propensity to soak up too much juice and get soggy, but I like them! I think the soak-age helps concentrate the flavors, lol! The sweet potato fries are thinner than most, but very crispy and flavorful. The house-made ranch is pretty delicious which is dangerous because I end up eating the whole thing!

Double double burger animal style – In-N-Out Burger

Double double animal style In-N-Out Burger

Two 100% pure beef patties, lettuce, tomato, spread, two slices of American cheese on a freshly baked bun.  Animal style with extra spread, pickles, and grilled onions. $3.30
In-N-Out Burger, Millbrae CA

Ok, I went back and I wasn’t even on a road trip. I really can’t keep away from In-N-Out! I get a craving and I gotsta have me some! I was particularly hungry this time around so I reverted back to order my old standby, lol!

Diet Coke In-N-Out Burger

Medium Diet Coke. $1.55

Hawaiian burger – Pinocchio In The Desert

Project 365: Day 10

I had a hard time sleeping last night, not sure why. I even had a nightmare where a snake tried biting me. Odd, huh?

Silverfox and I had a late brunch at one of our usual Palm Springs breakfast joints, Pinocchio In The Desert. Unfortunately, we were SO disappointed. Maybe it was the overcast weather, but everything at this place seemed off.  I’ve always known that you don’t really go to Pinocchio for the food, but the atmosphere is usually really fun so you don’t notice that the food isn’t all that great.

Today, we both noticed that the food was really crappy. That and the bottomless mimosas gave me a headache and knocked me out for the afternoon.

We did have a great dinner at Johannes though. You can read my diatribe about dark restaurants in my previous entry. I HATE DARK RESTAURANTS! So annoying.

Otherwise, had a lazy day. Did some clothes shopping and ran some errands. A nice vacay day if you ask me. Just wish the food had been better.

Hawaiian burger Pinocchio In The Desert

Half pound burger on a whole wheat bun, pineapple, teriyaki sauce, lettuce, sliced tomato, pickles, caramalized onions, swiss cheese and cole slaw. $10.95
Pinocchio In The Desert, Palm Springs CA

I guess this tasted ok, but how can you really go wrong with a burger drenched in teriyaki sauce with pineapples! Hawaiian burgers have always been a favorite of mine, but the beef patty on this burger was a bit of a throw away. Sad.

Bottomless mimosas

Bottomless champagne $3.95 per glass, orange juice carafe $3.95. This gave me a headache this time around.

Cheeseburger – Slider’s Diner

Cheeseburger Slider's Diner

Flame broiled beef patty with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles on a toasted sesame bun. Combo for $7.99
Slider’s Diner, San Francisco

I love that Slider’s cooks their burgers to-order! Their rotating grill is at the front of the restaurant and your patty goes on as soon as you order so your burger is served hot and fresh! They have a toppings bar where you can add whatever you like to your juicy burger.

French fries Slider's Diner

Cheeseburger – In-N-Out Burger

Cheeseburger In-N-Out Burger

100% pure beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, spread, one slice of American cheese on a freshly baked bun. $2.40
In-N-Out Burger, Kettleman City CA

David orders the regular cheeseburger with onions.  I think it’s boring without “animal style”, but he’s more health conscious than I am.  I don’t think he’d even go to In-N-Out unless I insisted on it during our road trips.   Hehe!

In-N-Out Burger, Kettleman City CA

Lemme just say that I periodically have In-N-Out cravings! It’s a treat for me because the ones in the Bay Area aren’t easily accessible without a car (beside the super busy and touristy one in Fisherman’s Wharf). So when a road trip comes along and there’s an In-N-Out Burger along the way, you best believe I’m making a stop. Lately I’ve been ordering a cheeseburger animal style because I feel guilty ordering a double-double.  Sad.  It doesn’t matter though because all of the burgers are frickin’ DELICIOUS!!!

Farmerbrown burger – Farmerbrown

Farmerbrown burger

1/2 pound of house ground chuck with garlic aioli and onions on a brioche roll, served with chips. $10 for happy hour, $1 extra for cheddar cheese
Farmerbrown, San Francisco

Wow, this was absolutely delicious!  Yet another one of those burgers that practically melts in your mouth.  Part of this is the super tender patty, and the other part is from the super soft and fluffy brioche bun.  I’m glad I got opted for the cheddar cheese add-on.  The fries were also very good.

Classic cheeseburger – 4505 Meats

Classic cheeseburger 4505 Meats

Grass fed, dry aged beef from Magruder Ranch with juicy tomato, lettuce and cheese on a toasted house made buttery sesame scallion bun. $8
4505 Meats, San Francisco

This is one of those wonderful burgers that melts in your mouth.  The bun is so light and buttery that it simply dissolves against the roof of your mouth.  The beef patty is exceptionally juicy and the entire burger is intoxicating!  Noms!

Old Story – Bisou

Bisou burger
Bisou burger served with Choron sauce, butter lettuce, tomato, red onion, apple wood bacon, and Morbier cheese.  Side frisée salad and French fries.

Bisou, San Francisco

This is a large burger made decadent with the addition of Choron sauce, apple wood bacon and Morbier cheese.  You could even add seared foie gras for $5!  The lightly dressed frisée salad helped to balance out the heavy burger.  No point in counting calories here, especially with a large bowl of French fries!

Juicy Lucy butter burger – Maverick

Juicy Lucy butter burger Maverick
Made with 70% Meyer Ranch beef chuck which is cured for 24 hours and 30% butter with a slice of smoked gouda in the middle of the patty. The patties are individually vacuum sealed and sous vide’d with another stick of butter then seared in a buttered cast-iron skillet and topped with a slow-cooked egg yolk, sauce gribiche, and watercress.  Served with sliced cornichons and French fries.
