Fritters – Next Door

Fritters - Next Door
Blue crab, yellow corn, and pimento cheese fritters served with comeback sauce. $12
Next Door, Memphis TN

These fritters were really tasty especially with the comeback sauce. I didn’t realize that there were going to be 3 different kinds of fritters in the bowl. I think my favorite was the pimento cheese for its gooey texture, but the blue crab for the flavor.

Combo over rice plate – Halal Cart

Combo over rice plate - Halal Cart
Lamb gyro and chicken with basmati rice, pita, and salad. $10
Halal Cart, San Francisco CA

I still love this combo plate for lunch. It’s definitely on the heavy side especially with all the white sauce and if you eat all of it at once. The hot sauce has been inconsistent the few times I’ve gone though. It was really hot to start with, but now it’s been kinda on the mild side. I like it when it’s on the hotter side.

Watermelon and wings – The Beauty Shop Restaurant

Watermelon and wings - The Beauty Shop Restaurant
White Szechuan pepper, sugar dust, sweet chile lime sauce, greens, toasted cashews, Maytag blue cheese. $13
The Beauty Shop Restaurant, Memphis TN

Mmm, these were so tasty! I loved the sauce on the chicken wings and the toppings were great too. I don’t think I’ve ever had chicken wings and watermelon together, but the combo was great. The wings were also super large so this dish was substantial.

Pork ribs and brisket combination – Charles Vergos’ Rendezvous

Pork ribs and brisket combination - Charles Vergos' Rendezvous
World-famous Rendezvous charcoal-broiled pork ribs, beef brisket, served with beans and slaw. $21.95
Charles Vergos’ Rendezvous, Memphis TN

Omg, I think these were my favorite ribs in Memphis. I know that they’re not Memphis style, but they were the most flavorful and juicy of all the ribs I tried. The rub that they use is frickin’ delicious! It was very herbaceous and had so many spices. NOMS! The brisket was good too, but the ribs were the star. I liked the baked beans, but the slaw was too vinegar-y for my taste.

Omg, there was SO much food on this plate! I couldn’t begin to finish everything especially since it was a pretty heavy breakfast. The omelet was really tasty though and I loved the creamy grits. Noms!

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, Memphis TN

I kept hearing that the chicken here was really good, and I’ll have to agree. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and very flavorful. With a little bit of hot sauce splashed on, I couldn’t eaten a few additional pieces, hehe!

It was pouring outside after my tour of Graceland, so I snuck into Minnie Mae’s for an ice cream cone. This flavor was really tasty and a great way to wait out the rain!
