Penne pasta with meatballs – United Airlines

Penne pasta with meatballs - United Airlines
Side salad with ranch dressing, dinner roll, butterscotch brownie.
San Francisco (SFO) to Paris (CDG), United Airlines

Ugh, I’m never liked the meals on United international flights. They’re usually worse than bad cafeteria food, but I guess they succeed in their goal of being heavy and fattening and making you fall asleep so you’re not a disturbance on the plane. This pasta was actually passable as decent microwave food though. The salad and roll were throw-aways, but the brownie was pretty tasty. 🙂

Oh Bi-Rite Creamery, how I still love you! You have never failed me on delicious flavors or served weird waxy ice cream. I will say that the blueberry swirl was verging on being too sweet, but the whole thing was still delicious! Kid size $2.50

Chocolate cremeux – Jardiniere

Chocolate cremeux - Jardiniere
Cherry, chicory ice cream. Tasting menu $140
Jardiniere, San Francisco CA

The dense, decadent chocolate cremeux was delicious and paired wonderfully with the cherries. The chicory ice cream had a restrained flavor that wasn’t overly herbal. I thought the dessert was well balanced and had a nice variety of textures.

Olallieberry pie - Duarte's Tavern
OMG, this was frickin’ delicious! We had to wait a few extra minutes but it was worth it to get this straight out of the oven. The pie was not too sweet and it had a wonderful berry flavor. I later found out that olallieberries are a cross between the loganberry and youngberry. Scientists in Oregon had developed multiple cane berry hybrids as part of a former USDA program. I’m glad they did because olallieberries are yummy!

Variegato amarena and Caramello al sale – D’Ambrosio Gelato

Variegato amarena and Caramello al sale - D'Ambrosio Gelato
Kirsch cherry and salted caramel gelato. Small $3.95
D’Ambrosio Gelato, Seattle WA

This gelato had a very creamy texture. I liked the cherry flavor more than the salted caramel which is surprising. I think the salted caramel had an odd waxy texture that I didn’t like.
