Sliced beef with onions and scallions in a spicy Mongolian sauce served over rice. Like I’ve said previously, the food here was NOT good. It was super low quality and not that tasty. I guess that’s what we get for ordering from a karaoke joint.

General Tso’s chicken – Tung Sing Restaurant
Project 365: Day 8
I was walking home from the gym and was SO frickin’ hungry! Actually, I was hungry the entire afternoon. I think I’ve been working out too much and not eating enough calories, which is surprising since I eat like a pig! That’s why I ducked into Tung Sing on the way home and grabbed a small order of General Tso’s chicken and a BBQ pork baked bun.
Now it’s time to do some laundry, clean my room, and pack for a road trip to Palm Springs with Silverfox! We leave early tomorrow morning and I can’t wait! It’ll be nice to be in warmer weather and do absolutely nothing. Just a lot of relaxing and drinking poolside. Ahhhh!
Breaded and deep fried chicken pieces in a special garlicky sauce with chopped onions and green bell peppers. Small $2.99
Tung Sing Restaurant, San Francisco
I was actually disappointed by this dish – a bit of a surprise considering how much I love General Tso’s chicken. I liked that it was super saucy, sticky and sweet but I think the quality of the food has gone downhill at Tung Sing. Even the pork bun was blah. I’ll admit that it helped ease my hungry, but I wish the chicken wasn’t so hard and over fried.
Popcorn chicken – E Plus Studio Karaoke And Cafe
I don’t know how good the karaoke is over here, but the food is NOT good! We had some takeout at work and I don’t think anybody liked what they ordered. I had already eaten lunch, but I ordered the popcorn chicken just to try it out and I was SO disappointed. The chicken was super greasy and MSG-sy, even for me! I think I got a little bit sick from this, too. 😦

Mongolian beef – Eric’s Restaurant
Sauteed beef slices with onions and dried chilies in a special sauce. $9
Eric’s Restaurant, San Francisco
I love Eric’s Mongolian beef! It has a rich, deep salty umami flavor that I’m partial to. The dish is primarily beef with just a few sliced onions and dried chilies. And I can’t complain about that! Just serve on top of rice and be happy. 🙂
Governor’s chicken kew – Eric’s Restaurant

Sauteed boneless chicken with broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, baby corn, and peas in a spicy garlic sauce. $8.75
Eric’s Restaurant, San Francisco
This was the first time I’ve tried this dish and it tasted pretty good! The chicken was tender and there was a lot vegetables to balance out the rich garlic sauce. I’ve never actually eaten at the restaurant, but I’ve had plenty of to-go orders since it’s SO close to my house. They don’t deliver, but the walk over helps to get me hungry, hehe!
Orange chicken – Cathay Express Restaurant
Don’t judge me, but I always get sucked into this place when I’m waiting for the J Muni in front of Safeway on my way home. I’ll be waiting for the train and super hungry so I’ll run into Cathay Express and buy something to-go before the next train arrives. The food is nothing special, just your typical quick greasy Chinese food. I must say that their combos are a great value, though. You get SO much food for really cheap. Although the quality is not very good, it still tastes good and it’s great for when I’m feeling extra poor, hehe!

General Tso’s chicken – Grand Palace Restaurant
Wok sauteed chicken with onions, green and red bell peppers, and black fungus in special sauce over steamed white rice. To go special $6.75
Grand Palace Restaurant, South San Francisco CA
Like I’ve said in a previous post, every place has their own version of General Tso’s chicken. Grand Palace’s version uses sauteed sliced chicken instead of deep fried breaded chicken bits. Their sauce also isn’t sweet or sticky. So what I’m saying is that, I don’t like this version very much – LOL! But it true, after all the guilty from ordering General Tso’s chicken, I want the satisfaction of biting into fattening, fried chicken pieces.
Szechuan eggplant – Grand Palace Restaurant
Sauteed eggplants with green onions, bamboo shoots, onions, black fungus, ginger and dried chilis in a garlic sauce. To go special $8.00
Grand Palace Restaurant, South San Francisco
Oh how I love eggplant! These were SO good too. I love how they were super saucy and garlicky. I was also surprised how much food they give you for their To Go Special. This didn’t come with any rice so it’s just a huge container of Szechuan eggplants, noms!
Cilantro fish fillet rice noodle rolls – Grand Palace Restaurant
Fried fish fillet and cilantro wrapped in a sheet of rice noodle and topped with more chopped cilantro and sweet soy sauce. $3.95
Grand Palace Restaurant, South San Francisco
I really liked this dish! I was surprised that you could actually distinguish the fish fillet inside. I assumed they would chop the fish into little pieces, but the fillets were whole and intact! The rice noodles were steamed perfectly and I loved their texture. Put cilantro on anything and it’s usually good! I’ve never understood why some people can’t stand the taste of cilantro – they’re missing out.
Steamed phoenix scallop dumplings – Grand Palace Restaurant
Steamed dumplings filled with shrimp and scallops. $3.20
Grand Palace Restaurant, South San Francisco
I think these are called phoenix dumplings because it’s supposed to look like a phoenix’s eye when you look down at the dumpling from above. It’s a bit of a stretch, but I get it. I’m not sure that the stringy starchy stuff is that they put on top. Maybe some kind of then noodles? These were delicious though with large chunks of shrimp and scallops inside!
Clams with black bean sauce – Grand Palace Restaurant
Wok sauteed clams with chopped onions, red and green bell peppers in a black been sauce. $5.85
Grand Palace Restaurant, South San Francisco
These weren’t all that good. I think they were overcooked or something. The clams were tough and chewy and the whole dish didn’t taste particularly special. It looks like a lot of food, but the clams they use have really thick shells which makes up most of the volume. Don’t think I’ll be ordering these again.
Roasted duck and bbq pork – Hung To Seafood

Served with bok choy and rice. $7
Hung To Seafood, South San Francisco
Another large and yummy dish. The bok choy and rice are great for soaking up all the yummy juices and fat from the meats. I wish the duck skin was a little crispier, but it still tasted great!
