Spicy chicken wings – Horner’s Corner

Spicy chicken wings - Horner's Corner
Celery sticks, coleslaw, blue cheese dressing. Happy hour $5
Horner’s Corner, San Francisco CA

I kinda love happy hour at Horner’s Corner. They have a five dollar menu and the food is pretty good! These wings were plump and juicy and definitely worth the happy hour price. Noms!

House made chicken liver pate – Starbelly

House made chicken liver pate - Starbelly
Buttered bread, sweet onion marmalade, grain mustard. $11
Starbelly, San Francisco CA

This pate was good. I liked the texture of it and the onion marmalade was great. I have a love/hate relationship with Starbelly though because the service and food is so damn inconsistent. I would say more so the service, but I’ve also had some horrible dishes here too.

Fusilli with basil-walnut pesto – Rose’s Luxury

IMG_7482
Golden raisins, basil. $14
Rose’s Luxury, Washington DC

It’s cool that a simple ingredient like golden raisins can totally change the game for a pasta dish like this. That simple addition enlivened this dish and made it interesting and new. Very cool…

Flying Dutchman sandwich – Miss Tomato Sandwich Shop

Flying Dutchman sandwich - Miss Tomato Sandwich Shop
Roast beef, pepper jack cheese, pastrami, pepperoni, turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, jalapeno peppers, tomato on Dutch crunch bread. $5.99
Miss Tomato Sandwich Shop, San Francisco CA

This sandwich was good, but not as spectacular as Ike’s. The Dutch crunch bread that I got was also a bit stale. I did like the combination of ingredients for this specialty sandwich though.

Chicken fried steak – The Firkin & Fox

Chicken fried steak - The Firkin & Fox
Battered and fried steak with country gravy and whipped potatoes. $11
The Firkin & Fox, Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

The exterior of this chicken fried steak was a bit hard, but I kinda liked it. The interior was still juicy and not over done so I didn’t mind the hard coating. It also prevented the gravy from soaking into the steak. I normally would prefer it to, but maybe that much gravy isn’t the best to eat right before boarding a flight, lol!

Dessert extras – Volt

Dessert extras - Volt
Macaron, blueberry jelly, chocolate nib, financier. Tasting menu $95
Volt, Frederick MD

These little bites, were so cute and tasty! Naturally, the macaron was my favorite but the blueberry jelly was surprisingly a close second. I didn’t think a jelly was going to impress me, but I loved its flavor and texture.

Jerk chicken – Rose’s Luxury

Jerk chicken - Rose's Luxury
Pickled mango raita, green papaya salad. $14
Rose’s Luxury, Washington DC

The chicken was good and the jerk was flavorful, but it was the other components that really made the dish. I really enjoyed the raita and papaya salad. I thought the portions was a bit small for the price.

Biscuit squares - Rose's Luxury
Biscuit squares with shallot butter and onion ash. Complimentary
I would have paid for these, they were so good! NOMS!

Gyro salad – Cannonball Deli

Gyro salad - Cannonball Deli
Lamb gyro with romaine lettuce, cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, onions, feta cheese and cucumber sauce. $10.99
Cannonball Deli, Harpers Ferry WV

Meh, this wasn’t good. I didn’t expect much from a random deli in touristy Harpers Ferry, and I didn’t get much. The lamb gyro was obviously from a frozen block and the salad was pretty flat and uninteresting.
