Pineapple, mango, orange, guava, passion fruit, kiwi, raspberry, strawberry, mint, grapefruit. £6.80
Laduree, London ENGLAND
This was a pretty fancy bowl of fruit! I was very impressed at how many different fruits they included. I was on vacation so that’s why I could justify spending that much on fruit salad, hehe! 🙂
Covent Garden Market. You can spend plenty of time looking through the shops and searching for food at this popular tourist destination.
Muddled pineapple, Skyy ginger vodka, orange juice, grapefruit, lime and soda. $12
The Tropicale, Palm Springs CA
Omg, our waitress was a bit wild and crazy, but very entertaining! She was definitely working hard for her tip which I can appreciate. This cocktail was more mellow than I expected (a good thing) and very refreshing. Mmm…
Soy caramel, mandarin orange, pickled pineapple, shaved coconut, macadamia nuts. $10
Mission Chinese Food, San Francisco CA
Mmm, this pork belly was SO tasty! I just wish there was more of it, hehe. The thick pieces were pretty fatty but the soy caramel sauce was absolutely addictive. I also loved the fun tropical additions.
Octopus and the Bay Bridge.
Canadian bacon, pineapple and cheese. $4.25
Escape From New York Pizza, San Francisco CA
Hawaiian pizzas have always been a favorite of mine ever since I was a kid. I love the combination of salty Canadian bacon with the sweet chunks of pineapple. Serve it on a thin crust like those at Escape From New York and you have a winner!
Golden Gate Bridge.
With avocado, greens (mache), parmesan crisp, pineapple and balsamic reduction. $13
Oswald, Santa Cruz CA
Mmm, this was very tasty! My one complaint was that the whipped avocado and picked crab mixture both had smooth and silky textures. I wish the avocado had been a little more firm to stand up to the crab (and feel less like baby food).
Hotel Paradox entrance vegetation.
With pickled pineapple and thyme salt. $5
The Alembic, San Francisco CA
These were tasty, but you really only need a piece or two. After that, it becomes too rich to eat. Thank goodness for the pickled pineapple’s acidity to cut through the richness of the duck hearts.
7×7 Magazine’s The Big Eat San Francisco: 100 Things to Eat + Drink Before You Die – 2013, 2014
Lion-headed man doorway art, The Mission.
Canadian bacon and pineapple. $4
Nizario’s Pizza, San Francisco CA
Growing up, Hawaiian pizza was always my favorite! I loved the combination of the salty Canadian bacon and the sweet pineapple. We didn’t have fancy pizzerias in the small town where I grew up so I wasn’t aware of anything better, hehe. I still love me some Hawaiian pizza though!
Maneki neko “welcome cat” sidewalk stencil, 16th Street.
Blackened and slow roasted, served with pineapple relish. $14
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA
Hmm, this was pretty dry! It had ok flavor, but nothing very redeeming. I’d say it was a failed dish overall.
Going up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
A la mode with vanilla bean ice cream.
Roy’s, Waikoloa HI
Ugh, this was probably the blandest pineapple upside down cake I’ve ever had. There was no enjoyment in this dessert. The cake was on the dry side and the pineapple portion was just boring. Even the vanilla ice cream could do little to liven up this sad dessert.
Recycle bin, Lololu Valley. Everybody should love to recycle!
Complimentary with dinner.
Gary Danko, San Francisco CA
What a delicious parting gift! French Laundry sends you off with shortbread cookies, and Gary Danko gives you a beautifully wrapped sponge cake to enjoy the next day. Little touches like these really sets stellar restaurants apart!
Soft sunrise from my balcony.
Chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate, strawberry and pineapple sauces, whipped cream, nuts and cherry on a whole banana. $9.29
Leatherby’s Family Creamery, Sacramento CA
I heard good things about this place from friends who grew up in the area. The sundaes and treats are gigantic, but honestly I wasn’t impressed. The ice cream didn’t taste special and the toppings, although there was plenty of them, were generic and common. Good for Leatherby’s to keep the soda fountain alive, but I think that I’ll splurge on my sweet calories elsewhere. The service was young and lacking, and the experience was mundane and uneventful. I felt no joy during my visit which is unfortunate because that’s exactly was an old-school soda fountain should evoke. Kinda sad.
Alpine meadow, Mount Rose Summit Trail.
Petite scoop $4.45
Fentons Creamery, Oakland CA
This was definitely light and airy with an almost whipped texture. The flavor was good, but OMG, almost five bucks for a this TINY thimbleful of ice cream! Wow, what a rip off!
