Whole wheat hero, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, mild pepper rings, pickle on the side. $6.49
Los Gatos Meats & Smokehouse, Los Gatos CA

The sandwiches at Los Gatos Meats are delicious! They smoke and roast all their meats and make their own sauces too. Come hungry because the sandwiches are huge – heck yeah!

Houston burger – Johnny Rockets

Houston burger - Johnny Rockets
1/3 pound beef patty, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, and spicy sauce, served with fries. $10.95
Johnny Rockets, Las Vegas NV

Sheesh, these burgers look much more substantial in the pictures! This tastes pretty good, but the patty was perhaps a little dry. The French fries were delicious!

Shrimp spring rolls – Pho Big Bowl

Shrimp spring rolls - Pho Big Bowl

Goi cuon tom. Shrimp, rice noodle and veggies. $4.85
Pho Big Bowl, Seattle WA

Decent shrimp spring rolls. What I was struck by was the thick consistency of their peanut sauce. I’ve never had one so thick! It still tasted good though.

The Sao Paolo burger – Frjtz

The Sao Paolo burger - Frjtz
6 oz burger served on a Dutch crunch bun with bacon, fried egg, cheddar cheese, mild peppers, caramelized red onions, chipotle remoulade, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. $13
Frjtz, San Francisco CA

This was a pretty large burger, not necessarily from the beef patty but from all the toppings! The meat was juicy and flavorful so I can’t complain. 🙂

Brandon’s grass fed beef burger – Grub

Brandon's grass fed beef burger - Grub
Housemade bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and sriracha aioli served on a toasted pain de mie bun. $13
Grub, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this burger was pretty tasty! It was well cooked and had lots of flavor. I loved the soft, toasted pain de mie and the thick slices of bacon. The sriracha aioli could’ve had more kick though.

Classic New Mexican Frito pie – Chile Pies

Classic New Mexican Frito pie - Chile Pies
Ground beef, pinto beans, red chile, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese and crema served in a Frito bag! $8
Chile Pies, San Francisco CA

This is an upscale version of the delicious white-trash staple, but I think it missed the mark. There was so much lettuce and pico de gallo on top that you couldn’t really get into the “meat” of the dish which is the Fritos, beef and beans. Perhaps some things are better left unaltered…

Lettuce wraps – Escena Lounge & Grill

Lettuce wraps - Escena Lounge & Grill
Grilled chicken cooked in ginger, served with sweet chili sauce. $12
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

This was probably the most basic and boring chicken lettuce wraps I’ve ever ordered. The chicken had that squishy texture that reminds me of the frozen pre-cooked variety found at grocery stores. Yuck!

Tea smoked pork belly sliders – M.Y. China

Tea smoked pork belly sliders - M.Y. China
Pickled daikon, cilantro, lettuce, sichuan peppercorn oil. Two for $8
M.Y. China, San Francisco CA

My visit to M.Y. China was a complete disaster! The service was TERRIBLE and the food was barely a step up from mall food (I guess that’s why they’re located inside Westfield Mall). When you start referring to pork belly buns as “sliders”, you know there’s something wrong. The pork belly was chewy and the bun wasn’t fluffy like most. I wouldn’t have known this was tea soaked either.

Sand-trap melt – Escena Lounge & Grill

Sand-trap melt - Escena Lounge & Grill
Fresh made white meat chicken salad served on wheat bread with lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese. Side of fresh fruit and a kosher pickle. $11
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

Wow, this chicken melt was SO good! I think the caramelized onions in the melt totally put it over the top. I was also happy with all the fruit they put on the plate.

Fresh made potato chips - Escena Lounge & Grill
Fresh made potato chips with Russian dressing. Complimentary

Omg, these were frickin’ amazing!

Chicken lettuce wraps – Lulu California Bistro

Chicken lettuce wraps - Lulu California Bistro
Minced chicken, water chestnut, crispy noodles, and sprouts served with lettuce wraps. Happy hour $7.49
Lulu California Bistro, Palm Springs CA

This wasn’t the best chicken lettuce wrap I’ve ever had. In fact, it was just marginal. But the price was great and the fun, hip atmosphere at Lulu helps to make up for the mediocre food.
