Oyster shooters – Arnies Restaurant

Oyster shooters - Arnies Restaurant
With cocktail sauce. Happy hour $0.99 each
Arnies Restaurant, Edmonds WA

I’m always wary of oyster shooter because I feel like it’s a way for restaurants to get rid of their older oysters. Anyway, I tried on e of these and it wasn’t my thing. The oysters were too large for my liking, and it just didn’t taste all that fresh.

PB&J jalapeno poppers – Shelter Lounge

PB&J jalapeno poppers - Shelter Lounge
Strawberry peppercorn jam, bacon. $9
Shelter Lounge, Seattle WA

These poppers were disgusting! I was intrigued by the concept, but they came out hard, dense, and tasted horrible. They were greasy on the outside and the filling was muddled and unpleasant. And I don’t appreciate out-dated menus that don’t reflect the current item pricing. Either that or our server was over-charging.

Camarones en mole de tamarindo – Colibri Mexican Bistro

Camarones en mole de tamarindo - Colibri Mexican Bistro
Sauteed prawns in tamarind mole served with a savory corn cake. $18
Colibri Mexican Bistro, San Francisco CA

I actually enjoyed this! I’ve never had a tamarind mole, but the bright citrus-y quality of the mole worked well with the seafood. The corn cake was also pretty good and great for sopping up the mole.

Pre-boarding snacks – United Club

Pre-boarding snacks - United Club
Salumi, cheese, pita, veggies, nuts and dried fruit, Rose Kennedy cocktail. Complimentary
United Club, San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

They improved the United Clubs at SFO, and they know provide a wider variety of snacks. They tend to get really busy though so sometimes it’s no longer any more relaxing than being in the terminal areas.

Roasted pork sandwich – Harrow

Roasted pork sandwich - Harrow
With carrot-apple slaw, pickled onions, shaved jalapeno, cilantro, ground mustard and sriracha aioli. $11
Harrow, San Francisco CA

This sandwich was delicious! The bread was surprisingly soft and I liked that it was toasted. The roasted pork was very flavorful and the extra toppings gave it an almost banh mi feel. I enjoyed the kick from the jalapenos and the crunch from the apples. The acid from the mustard and pickled veggies was a nice counterpoint to the tender, juicy pork. Mmm…
