It was a warm, beautiful afternoon and my brother found out that Shilshole Bay Marina was throwing a block party to celebrate their 50th anniversary. So, naturally, we hopped onto our beach cruisers and biked over. We were pleasantly surprised by the great quality of free food they were handing out! You had your choice of a shrimp or salmon casear salad and a drink. They were also handing out bags of Kukuruza popcorn which, by the way, is delicious! It’s a local Seattle company with a storefront in Ballard (and elsewhere probably). We hung out for a while, just long enough to get some cake – lol! Ah, another great day in Seattle!

Crema Catalana ice cream – Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous

Crema Catalana ice cream - Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous
Lime custard with citrus caramel. Single $3.50
Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous, San Francisco CA

Wow, this was SO amazing! The lime custard flavored ice cream was light and delicate but still very flavorful, and the citrus caramel was such a great surprise. It was gooey and runny and SO frickin’ yummy! Well done, Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous!

Driving towards San Francisco on the Bay Bridge. While not as popular or well known as the Golden Gate, I still enjoy driving back on the Bay Bridge and being welomed by the downtown skyline.

Caramel chocolate pearl travel cake – Craftsman & Wolves

Caramel chocolate pearl travel cake - Craftsman & Wolves
Moist cake with mini chocolate chips, caramelly glaze, and chocolate square. $3.50
Craftsman & Wolves, San Francisco CA

I really wasn’t in the mood for cake this morning on my way to Bart, but I couldn’t resist once I saw this beautiful travel cake in the display case. Omg, the chocolate and caramel flavors are rich and deep and I love the wonderful texture of the cake. SO good!

Waffle with caramel sauce – Belgian Waffle Stand

Waffle with caramel sauce - Belgian Waffle Stand
Plain waffle with caramel topping. £2.50
Belgian Waffle Stand, London ENGLAND

This random waffle stand sits right outside the Green Park Tube Station and literally smells of butter and sugar, lol! They offer a variety of toppings including chocolate, strawberry, cream, fruit, etc. The waffles are super sugary and the caramel sauce made it even sweeter. It had great flavor and it was warm, but definitely way too sweet for me!

Salted caramel pecan bar petite – Starbucks

Salted caramel pecan bar petite - Starbucks
Salted caramel, pecan and biscuit filling on a chewy biscuit base topped with milk Belgian chocolate and pecan pieces. Contains nuts, vegetarian. 248 calories, 4.1 g sat fat. Buy 3 or more, Eat in £1.20 each
Starbucks, London ENGLAND

We don’t have these petite bars available at U.S. Starbucks which is totally lame! The Starbucks in Europe have such better pastries, desserts, and food in general than those in the States. This was a little sweet for my taste but definitely delicious. I can’t believe they can pack almost 250 calories into this tiny morsel!

I guess this is a Thomas Keller signature combination that’s no longer available on the regular menu. We got it for free at the end of the meal (thanks again Olivia) and they were AMAZING!

Banana cream tart – Tartine Bakery

Banana cream tart Tartine Bakery

Dark chocolate and caramel coated flaky pastry shell filled with sliced bananas and cream, topped with shaved chocolate and powdered sugar. 9″ tart $40
Tartine Bakery, San Francisco

Wow, this tart was amazing! Messy, but AMAZING! If you love bananas, you’ll absolutely love this tart. I’m not a huge banana fan, but I will eat this tart any day! I brought this to a Christmas party and it was a big hit. You can never go wrong with bringing a tart or cake from Tartine!

The pastry shell was pretty thick and because it was chocolate and caramel coated, it was fairly difficult to slice through. But after you did, you received a great surprise as the sliced bananas came pouring out. Amazing!

Chocolate budino – Reform Club

Chocolate budino Reform Club

Served with a savory biscotti-like cookie, caramel sauce, and ice cream(?).  $40 for 4-course dinner.
Reform Club @ Specchio, San Francisco

This dessert didn’t do much for me.  In fact, I hardly remember eating it as evidenced by me not knowing if that was ice cream or not, lol!  I do remember that the caramelly sauce underneath was good and that the budino had a sparkly reflection to it.  They must have dusted it with something.  This budino was definitely more on the cake side rather than in the pudding/souffle realm.  A bit disappointing…

Salted caramel ice cream – Bi-Rite Creamery

Salted caramel ice cream Bi-Rite Creamery

Luscious, salted caramel ice cream – arguably their most popular flavor! Kid size scoop, $2.50
Bi-Rite Creamery, San Francisco

I have to admit that Bi-Rite is my favorite ice cream in San Francisco (with Three Twins a close second).  They have great flavors, but I think it’s the consistency that does it for me.  Other creameries have ice cream that are too milky or too airy.  Bi-Rite’s is right in the middle – which is perfect for me!  The pic doesn’t do the ice cream justice since I took it after the melting point. They make the ice cream in small batches using Straus Family dairy and other local and organic ingredients whenever possible.  Their tiny storefront near Dolores Park has a line around the corner whenever it’s warm and sunny, but it’s worth the wait!
