Pancho’s crispy fish tacos – Norma’s

Pancho's crispy fish tacos - Norma's
With chipotle salsa and pickled onions, guacamole and pico de gallo, lime. $22
Norma’s, Palm Springs CA

Another lame, basic dish for twenty two bucks! I guess if you add a grilled lime and stick long tortilla chips into the guacamole you can charge that amount. Someone should tell them that it would help if the food actually tasted good.

Pan seared Alaskan halibut – Jardiniere

Pan seared Alaskan halibut - Jardiniere
Avocado, cherry tomato, basil. Tasting menu $140
Jardiniere, San Francisco CA

Mmm, another fabulous dish from Jardiniere. The halibut was cooked perfectly; it had a nice crust on the outside and the inside was soft and pillowy. The accompanying broth had so much flavor, and the avocado was a nice change of pace.

Carne asada tostada – El Farolito

Carne asada tostada - El Farolito
Grilled beef, corn shell, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, avocado and sour cream. $3.50
El Farolito, San Francisco CA

I needed a quick snack before ducking into the 24th Street Bart Station so I grabbed this tostada at El Farolito. I’m not a fan of this place because the service is erratic and the food tends to be super salty, but it’s affordable and “usually” quick. I actually liked this tostada though. The grilled beef wasn’t overly salty and they piled on enough toppings to tide me over until my next actual meal.

Carne asada nachos – The Little Chihuahua

Carne asada nachos - The Little Chihuahua
Hot corn tortilla chips topped with black beans, smoky chile salsa, jack cheese, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. $10.95
The Little Chihuahua, San Francisco CA

This was delicious and super cheesy! The carne asada was very flavorful and I liked the smoky chile salsa than the others they have at their salsa bar. I’m also surprised how well the sour cream and guacamole withstood the car ride in the to-go container.

Yellowtail crudo – Padrecito

Yellowtail crudo - Padrecito
Mango, avocado, chipotle-agave salsita and blue corn chips. $15
Padrecito, San Francisco CA

Hmm, this isn’t what I expected when I saw “yellowtail crudo” on the menu. It’s ok becuase this actually tasted pretty good. I would have preferred if there was less mango so that you could properly taste the yellowtail though.

Torta lengua – Taqueria San Jose

Torta lengua - Taqueria San Jose
Beef tongue, lettuce, toamto and avocado. $8.99
Taqueria San Jose, San Francisco CA

I really liked the huge chunks of beef tongue in this sandwich, but I didn’t like that everything was cold. I would have enjoyed this more if they had grilled or pressed the bread, or quickly grilled the beef tongue.

B.L.O.A.T.T. sandwich – Solaire Restaurant + Bar

B.L.O.A.T.T. sandwich - Solaire Restaurant + Bar
Daily’s bacon, sweet gem lettuce, pickled onion, avocado, turkey, vine ripened tomato and house made chips. $12
Solaire Restaurant + Bar, Santa Cruz CA

This sandwich tasted great and I really liked the pickled onions. I just wish the turkey was of better quality, but the home made potato chips were amazing! I’d order a bowl of the chips by themselves next time. Unfortuantely, I had to go hunting for our poolside server when we wanted to pay. I walked around everywhere and finally had to clear my check with the manager. What a waste of my time!

Cilantro-crusted fish tacos – Liberty Cafe

Cilantro-crusted fish tacos - Liberty Cafe
Fresh wild flounder, avocado mayo, jicama slaw, chile de arbol salsa. $15
Liberty Cafe, San Francisco CA

I really wasn’t in the mood for proper brunch food when I was here so I opted for these fish tacos. OMG, what a mistake! As you can see, the plate looks like a messy pile of crap and the random thimble-sized side of bland black beans they threw in was just ridiculous. There was not even a hint of cilantro flavor in the greasy fish. And don’t even try to eat these like proper tacos because the single tortillas underneath become way too soggy from the sloppy mound of wet ingredients on top.

Velvet nachos – Velvet Cantina

Velvet nachos - Velvet Cantina
With chorizo, house made tortilla chips, chile con queso, black beans, sour cream, and guacamole. $12.78
Velvet Cantina, San Francisco CA

Omg, this was SO frickin’ wrong in the best way possible! You knew this plate was bad for you once it arrived, but it tasted so good that you couldn’t stop from eating the entire thing, lol. The chile con queso was warm and melted and just coated the tortilla chips perfectly. The chorizo was an added dose of unhealthy, but it too tasted heavenly to omit. I think my heart is constricting again just decribing this plate, lol!

Tortilla chips and guacamole – La Carta de Oaxaca

Tortilla chips and guacamole - La Carta de Oaxaca
The food here is very good, but I think it’s over-priced for the portions! I don’t know why Seattleites are willing to pay these prices for something that could easily cost a dollar or two less. That goes for the entire menu. $6
