Ice cream break – United Airlines

Vanilla ice cream - United Airlines
These little cups of ice cream with the wooden spoons always bring me back to childhood. I remember occasionally getting them with our school lunches in elementary school. Those tasted better though, lol!

Beef and cheese enchiladas – United Airlines

Beef and cheese enchiladas - United Airlines
Served with side salad, dinner roll, cream crackers, and coffee cake.
London (LHR) to San Francisco (SFO), United Airlines

OK, I’m a sucker for saucy dishes even then they’re subpar. This was covered in a whole lotta cheese and more sauce so I can’t complain too much, hehe. Everything else was pretty boring. I’m not sure why I ate most of this – maybe a I was just bored from watching all the in-flight movies…

Roast chicken with gravy – United Airlines

Roast chicken with gravy - United Airlines
Served with potatoes, carrots, green beans, side salad, dinner roll, and cream crackers.
London (LHR) to San Francisco (SFO), United Airlines

The chicken doesn’t look very appetizing, but it was actually palatable with the salty gravy on top. The carrots and beans were way overcooked and had the consistency of soft food for the elderly. I’m not a salad person so I just picked at a few lettuce leaves. This was another underwhelming dinner service from United Airlines. Please, let me fly first class next time!

Preboarding free food frenzy – Star Alliance Gold Lounge

Preboarding free food frenzy - Star Alliance Gold Lounge
Chicken sandwich, chicken satay, chicken cheese balls with sweet and sour sauce, Diet Pepsi, Guinness beer. Complimentary
Star Alliance Gold Lounge, London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

This was one of several plates I managed to devour before boarding the plane back to San Francisco. I was really impressed at how many food items, both hot and cold, that they carried at this lounge! The fried chicken cheese balls were my favorite though probably because everything tastes better fried and covered in sweet and sour sauce. And they also served a nice variety of sodas and beer. I will admit that I did stuff several bags of potato chips and Diet Pepsi’s into my carry-on bag, but only because I knew the food on United was going to be horrible and I didn’t want to starve for the next 11 hours. Lol, I’m pretty ghetto! 😉

Croissant and fruit – United Airlines

Croissant and fruit - United Airlines
Cantaloupe, honey dew melon, butter.
San Francisco (SFO) to Paris (CDG), United Airlines

Nothing says, “Welcome to Paris!” quite like an United Airlines breakfast – NOT! This was a veritable slap in the face, lol. The croissant was limp, chewy, and rock hard in some places. And they served the cheapest fruit you can buy. Huh, I’m really not surprised at the quality and item choice from United though. I’ve never associated United Airlines with delicious food or outstanding service. C’est la vie!

Sweet and sour chicken – United Airlines

Sweet and sour chicken - United Airlines
Served with fried rcie, side salad with ranch dressing, dinner roll, butterscotch brownie.
San Francisco (SFO) to Paris (CDG), United Airlines

Ugh! I would say that this was a joke of Chinese food, but I’m pretty sure sweet and sour chicken is an American invention in the first place. I’m just gonna say that this was NOT good, yuck!

Penne pasta with meatballs – United Airlines

Penne pasta with meatballs - United Airlines
Side salad with ranch dressing, dinner roll, butterscotch brownie.
San Francisco (SFO) to Paris (CDG), United Airlines

Ugh, I’m never liked the meals on United international flights. They’re usually worse than bad cafeteria food, but I guess they succeed in their goal of being heavy and fattening and making you fall asleep so you’re not a disturbance on the plane. This pasta was actually passable as decent microwave food though. The salad and roll were throw-aways, but the brownie was pretty tasty. 🙂

Red wine to ease the international flight – United Airlines

Red wine - United Airlines
Marrenon, Mediterranee, Classique 2011. $7
San Francisco (SFO) to Paris (CDG), United Airlines

Uh, I hate long international flights! I used to get excited about flying, but now it’s such an inconvenience to get to where you want to go. Or maybe it’s because I’m always flying economy, lol! Someone needs to give me their unused upgrades! 🙂 It helps to drink some wine to wind down and relax before settling in for the upcoming movie marathon. And please do yourself a favor and don’t eat the lame Summer Harvest mini pretzels.
