Moules frites – Aquitane

Moules frites - Aquitane
Fennel, saffron bouillon, garlic-parsley batonnes, served with fries. $15
Aquitane, San Francisco CA

Meh, I wasn’t impressed. The flavors were ok, but the mussels were small, a bit dry and shriveled. Even the toast was gummy and hard to chew.

Frites - Aquitaine
These frites were just ok for me. If you’re going to be on some food list, you better be frickin’ amazing, but there just weren’t. They were limp and soggy, and a bit greasy – definitely what you’re looking for in amazing French fries. Boo!

Beef and cheese piroshki - Anda Piroshki
I loved this piroshki. It was jam packed with beef and cheese filling and its crust is so deliciously buttery and flaky. It’s rich and hefty enough to constitute a meal in my view. Noms!

Laksa – Azalina’s

Laksa - Azalina's
Malaysian spicy noodle soup, with egg. $13
Azalina’s, San Francisco CA

I’ve never had laksa before and it was very delicious. I wish it could have been a tad bit spicier, but the flavors were really wonderful and comforting. I loved the fried shallots on top and I’m glad I opted for the addition of egg.

English trifle – House of Prime Rib

English trifle - House of Prime Rib
Grand Marnier creme anglaise. $9
House of Prime Rib, San Francisco CA

This trifle was simple, light, and perfect after a large prime rib dinner! Although the House of Prime Rib is super touristy, it’s one of San Francisco’s oldest restaurants and is a mainstay. The prime rib is also delicious and the service is great. The host was a bit of a jerk, but I guess it’s easy to develop an attitude when having to deal with so many tourists during a shift.

Salt and pepper crab – R&G Lounge

Salt and pepper crab - R&G Lounge
Live crab battered, deep-fried and sprinkled with salt and pepper seasonings. Half $25
R&G Lounge, San Francisco CA

Meh, I really wasn’t a fan of this dish especially considering how expensive it was. I guess the flavor was ok, but the crab was SO greasy! I’m all for eating with my hands and getting messy but it’s gross to be squeezing and crushing THAT much oil out of your food. Ugh, I definitely would not order this again.

Prime rib – House of Prime Rib

Prime rib - House of Prime Rib
House of Prime Rib cut, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed spinach, Yorkshire pudding. Prime rib dinner $41.85
House of Prime Rib, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this prime rib was delicious! It was tender and juicy and super flavorful. The mashed potatoes were also yummy but the gravy was a bit salty. The creamed spinach were also on the salty side, but still very tasty. I didn’t much like the Yorkshire pudding because it was dry, but maybe it was supposed to be since it was great for soaking up all the juices on the plate. Noms!

Caldo Tlalpeno con pollo - Nopalito
Chicken consomme, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, garbanzos, avocado, queso fresco and chipotle abodabo. $13
Nopalito, San Francisco CA

This soup was very flavorful, but surprisingly light compared to something like a pozole. I didn’t know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. The flavors were subtle but well developed. I was tickled by the dried whole pepper plopped in the middle.

Wind Up Bird cocktail - Beretta
Wind Up Bird: Japanese whiskey, carpano bianco, curacao, salted cacao. $11
This cocktail was very herby and liqueury tasting and so it wasn’t my favorite. Although it wasn’t sweet per se, it was leaning toward that profile.
