Herb roasted chicken breast – Waterbar

Herb roasted chicken breast - Waterbar
Potato galette, roasted rhubarb, rhubarb mostarda. Lunch prix fixe $30
Waterbar, San Francisco CA

I loved the flavors of this dish especially from the rhubarb, but the chicken was really dry! Even the potato galette was dry so I was pretty disappointed. The plate looked beautiful though.

French Bulldog cocktail - Waterbar
French Bulldog: Grey Goose vodka, St. Germain elderflower, grapefruit, lemon. $13

Grilled chicken salad bowl – Freshroll Vietnamese Rolls & Bowls

Grilled chicken salad bowl - Freshroll Vietnamese Rolls & Bowls
Lettuce, sprouts, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeño, pineapple, basil, bell pepper, carrot, scallion, pickled veggies. $7.94
Freshroll Vietnamese Rolls & Bowls, San Francisco CA

This was actually pretty tasty, but there wasn’t much food. I guess salads just don’t fill me up, and they don’t include much chicken. I would’ve opted for the extra meat, but I don’t think they would have added much for $2.50.

Bbq belly and grits – Magnolia Pub and Brewery

Bbq belly and grits - Magnolia Pub and Brewery
Anson Mills cheddar grits, poached eggs, fried shallots. $14
Magnolia Pub and Brewery, San Francisco CA

Gross! This was probably the most bland dish I’ve ever eaten that had pork belly and/or grits in it; and I’ve eaten a lot of dishes! I ate half of it because I was starving, then couldn’t eat any more of the crap. The service was also atrocious! The seater tried to make a joke but ended up just being offensive. I didn’t get water until halfway through the meal, and the server was completely clueless about everything whenever she decided to make a rare appearance. I don’t think I have any reason to return to this restaurant.

Five spice roasted chicken and imperial rolls – Sunflower Vietnamese Restaurant

Five spice roasted chicken and imperial rolls - Sunflower Vietnamese Restaurant
Vermicelli rice noodles with greens. $8.95
Sunflower Vietnamese Restaurant, San Francisco CA

Ugh, I was not impressed… The chicken was dry and really salty so don’t even think about adding any of the fish sauce – you’ll pass a kidney stone. The imperial rolls were delicious, perhaps on the greasy side. I liked the noodles and the fried scallions, but the chicken was gross.

Molten English pea ravioli – Boulevard

Molten English pea ravioli - Boulevard
Toasted pine nuts and Bucheron goat’s milk cheese, Italian summer truffles. $17
Boulevard, San Francisco CA

While the filling of these raviolis weren’t molten hot (more lukewarm), they were still absolutely delicious! I loved the flavor of the runny pea filling and the bow tie pasta shapes were very charming. Noms!

Manhattan in Spring cocktail - Boulevard
Manhattan in Spring: Buffalo Trace bourbon, aperol liqueur, rhubarb, Peychauds bitters, served up. $14

Roasted beet salad – Waterbar

Roasted beet salad - Waterbar
Pt. Reyes blue cheese, watercress, toasted hazelnuts. Lunch prix fixe $30
Waterbar, San Francisco CA

Simple and delicious! I loved the perfect wedges of purple and golden beets (go Huskies!). Local Point Reyes blue cheese is great with everything, and the minimal dressing was perfect in showcasing the main components. Noms!

Bread and salted butter - Waterbar
Bread and salted butter. Complimentary

Pluma Iberico de bellota – Coqueta

Pluma Iberico de bellota - Coqueta
Pork shoulder loin with honey-chili glaze. $38
Coqueta, San Francisco CA

This pork was pretty damn tasty! But I would hope that it would be for costing almost forty bucks! I thought that it was maybe a bit undercooked for pork, so I was a little afraid to eat it, but I knew that it was really good quality pork and it tasted delicious so I ate the entire thing. The exterior was nicely seared and charred in places and the slices just melted in your mouth. The honey-chili sauce was also frickin’ amazing with the pork. I really liked this dish, but it was a bit much for a lunchtime entrée.

Applewood smoked beef brisket sandwich – Tender Greens

Applewood smoked beef brisket sandwich - Tender Greens
Twelve hour smoked, with cabbage slaw and aioli served with tender green, english peas, gold nugget mandarins, and sherry vinaigrette. $12
Tender Greens, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this beef brisket was really good and they give you a hearty amount of it in the sandwich. I ate half of the sandwich and had the other half for a late afternoon snack and it was still very tasty a few hours later. I also liked that the salad had beautiful greens and fresh produce.

Assorted tacos – Tacolicious

Assorted tacos - Tacolicious
Fried pacific cod, shot-and-a-beer braised chicken, house-made chorizo and potatoes, salsa verde pork(?). $22.90
Tacolicious, San Francisco CA

These tacos were delicious, but our server was kind of a bitch! She seemed really bored and couldn’t be bothered with anything. Thank god we ordered a cocktail pitcher. I needed the alcohol to put up with our lame server, although it was super weak. Not a good visit overall.

Paloma cocktail - Tacolicious
Paloma: El Jimador blanco, grapefruit, elderflower. Pitcher $34

Chips and salsa - Tacolicious
Chips and salsa. Complimentary

Point Reyes Bay blue cheese and beet salad – Boulevard

Point Reyes Bay blue cheese and beet salad - Boulevard
Oregon hazelnut aillade with preserved kumquats and Brooks cherries, icicle radishes and petite red romaine. $14.25
Boulevard, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this salad was amazing and the beets were beautiful. Actually, all the components of this salad were beautiful. I’m not even a huge salad person but I love quality food, and this plate was scrumptious. NOMS!

Bread and salted butter - Boulevard
Bread and salted butter. Complimentary

Lemongrass pork hot box – Asian Box

Lemongrass pork hot box - Asian Box
Brown rice, broccoli, carrot, jalapeno, cilantro, chili sauce. $9.55
Asian Box, San Francisco CA

Wow, this was actually really hot! I was surprised because most lunch places, especially in the Union Square area, play it safe with the heat. The pork had a lemongrass flavor, but it wasn’t juicy as it could have been. I love hot and spicy, but I think they may have overdone it with this one. You really couldn’t taste much of anything else.

Tortilla “Andres” – Coqueta

Tortilla Andres - Coqueta
Sweet onion, organic potato, parsley, piquillo pepper aioli. $7
Coqueta, San Francisco CA

Ok, the service here was better this time around, but there’s still something about it that irks me. It’s awkward and mostly aloof. Puh-lease! Anyway, this tortilla was delicate and delicious (I’ll give them that).

Limonada - Coqueta
Limonada: roasted sparkling lemonade, rosemary, seasonal fruit. $3
