Poire belle Helene – Le P’tit Laurent

Poire belle Helene - Le P'tit Laurent
Poached pear with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream. $7.50
Le P’tit Laurent, San Francisco CA

This was the perfect dessert to end our meal. It wasn’t too sugary sweet and it had a great firm texture. And how can you go wrong with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce?!

‘Ice cream’ sandwich – State Bird Provisions

Ice cream sandwich - State Bird Provisions
Candied almond and chocolate, apricot meringue. $8
State Bird Provisions, San Francisco CA

This was a really fun and delicious dessert! I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet and the components worked well together.

Chocolate chip cookies – DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel

Chocolate chip cookies - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
This place gives you complimentary cookies when you arrive, mmm!
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, San Diego CA

Chocolate chip cookies - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
Perhaps I would have prefered a complimentary bottle of champagne but I guess cookies will have to do, hehe.

Coffee machine - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
Hotel room coffee machine with Wolfgang Puck coffee. Because cookies always taste great with creamy coffee!

Chocolate mousse napoleon – Maven

Chocolate mousse napoleon - Maven
Creme fraiche and lemon ice cream, malt, brandy. Bloomspot 4-course chef’s tasting menu with cocktail pairings for two.
Maven, San Francisco CA

I liked this dessert because it tasted great, but it was really difficult to eat. The cookies were a bit too hard to break through so the chocolate mousse just kept oozing out every time you tried to cut into it. Hmm…

Maven's Milk Punch cocktail - Maven
Maven’s Milk Punch Cocktail: rum, Maven’s bourbon, vanilla, milk, hazelnut.

Pineapple upside down cake – Roy’s

Pineapple upside down cake - Roy's
A la mode with vanilla bean ice cream.
Roy’s, Waikoloa HI

Ugh, this was probably the blandest pineapple upside down cake I’ve ever had. There was no enjoyment in this dessert. The cake was on the dry side and the pineapple portion was just boring. Even the vanilla ice cream could do little to liven up this sad dessert.

Toasted coconut ice cream – Waimea Coffee Company

Toasted coconut ice cream - Waimea Coffee Company
Tropical Dreams Ice Cream. $3.50
Waimea Coffee Company, Waimea HI

This ice cream was gross! It was uber soft and had a nasty texture. If I wanted a milkshake, I would have ordered one. It’s a flat-out abomination to serve ice cream this soft! Lame.

Rainbow shaved ice – Waiola Shave Ice

Rainbow shaved ice - Waiola Shave Ice

Strawbeery, banana, and vanilla. Small cup $2.15
Waiola Shave Ice, Honolulu HI

Mmm, this shaved ice was SO yummy! The ice is super fine and fluffy, unlike the the kind we get on the mainland. The syrup is also very good and not overly sweet. The service could use some improvement though.

Chocolate chili terrine – Staple & Fancy

Chocolate chili terrine - Staple & Fancy
Caramel ice cream, caramel sauce and brittle. Family style supper $46 per person
Staple and Fancy, Seattle WA

Of the two desserts we received, I preferred this one. The brittle was really good, and the caramel ice cream helped to balance out the rich, dense cake.

Huckleberry and peach crostata – Staple & Fancy

Huckleberry and peach crostata - Staple & Fancy
Vanilla ice cream and almonds. Family style supper $46 per person
Staple and Fancy, Seattle WA

I’m not a fan of super sweet desserts, but this was on the other end of the spectrum. It was bland and the dough was thick and undercooked. Perhaps this is why I rarely order desserts. Unfortunate since the rest of the meal was delicious up to this point. 😦

Chocolate toffee brownie a la mode – Zadin

Chocolate toffee brownie a la mode - Zadin

Warm brownie topped with Mitchell’s coconut ice cream. $7
Zadin, San Francisco CA

This was ok, but then I’m not a huge dessert person. I did love the Mitchell’s coconut ice cream though!
