Baklava – Tarla Mediterranean Grill

Homemade walnut baklava, served with vanilla bean gelato. $7
Tarla Mediterranean Grill, Napa CA
Mmm, this was so good! I love baklava and when it’s paired with vanilla gelato, how can you say no?! The crushed pistachios were also a nice touch. Noms!

Shredded chicken nachos – Frida’s Mexican Grill

Beans, cheese, salsa fresco, guacamole, and sour cream. Happy hour $4
Frida’s Mexican Grill, Napa CA
It was kind of amusing how small this plate was, even for happy hour. It was pretty good though and at least they tried to make it interesting.

Ham and cheese croissant – Bouchon Bakery

$6.75
Bouchon Bakery, Yountville CA
Ok, this is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. Bouchon Bakery presses the shit out of their croissant sandwiches so you end up with a flat, condensed buttery mess! Isn’t the joy of eating a croissant the ability to appreciate the airy layers and flaky exterior? Well, they’ve decided that eating a hard puck of food is preferable. Fail!

Etoile brut. $14

I love visiting Domaine Chandon. It’s so pretty there and it’s always fun to taste all the different sparkling wines while relaxing outside. Elena helped us out on our last visit and she rocked it! Can’t wait to go back.

Dessert duo – Cafe Bastille

Pave chocolate creme brulee and raspberry key lime mousse. Three course dinner prix fixe $35
Cafe Bastille, San Francisco CA
These desserts were decent. They weren’t super fancy or delicious, but they were different enough from each other to hold my interest.

Caramelized diver scallops – Tarla Mediterranean Grill

Shrimp, celery root, wild mushrooms, hearts of palm, asparagus, lemon caper sauce. $23
Tarla Mediterranean Grill, Napa CA
This dish was very interesting. It was on the acidic side and had a lot of different flavors and textures. My first inclination is to say that it was too busy and too acidic. I wish the scallops were a more prominent flavor, but they kind of got lost amongst everything else.

Olive oil and tapenade with bread. Complimentary
Ceviche tostadas – Frida’s Mexican Grill

Three tostaditas with fresh fish ceviche and avocado. Happy hour $4
Frida’s Mexican Grill, Napa CA
These definitely weren’t the best ceviche I’ve ever had, but I will say that they were a steal at only four bucks. The fish was a bit on the grainy side and it was overall on the acidic side. Thank goodness for the avocado slice that helped mellow it out.

Espresso and pistachio macarons – Bouchon Bakery

Each $3.50
Bouchon Bakery, Yountville CA
Mmm, I love macarons! Bouchon Bakery is very popular and the wait can be ridiculously long. So were these macarons worth it? Hmm, I’d say so. They were nice and soft and very flavorful without being overly sweet.

Memphis pulled pork sandwich – Roadside BBQ

Slow-cooked and served lean and tender. Served Memphis style – topped with homemade coleslaw and a side of mac ‘n cheese. $8.95
Roadside BBQ, San Rafael CA
I’m back!!! Sorry I’ve been away for over a month. I had family obligations and then was traveling for work. But it’s nice to be back in San Francisco. Hope you all have been doing great!
This sandwich was very tasty. The pork had a nice smoky flavor to it, but it definitely benefited from a few healthy doses of bbq sauce while eating. I liked the mac and cheese but thought it could have been creamier.

Rabbit in mustard grain sauce – Cafe Bastille

Lapin a la moutarde. Served with braised greens and rice. Three course dinner prix fixe $35
Cafe Bastille, San Francisco CA
They say that rabbit tastes like chicken, and with this dish I think it looks exactly like chicken too. I love the slightly gamey flavor of rabbit and most of the time it’s very tender. This rabbit dish was tasty and super hearty.

Grilled Shannon Ranch lamb shish kebab – Tarla Mediterranean Grill

Marinated with Mediterranean herbs and spices, kale, Rancho Gordo cassoulet beans, basil-mint chimichurri sauce. $22
Tarla Mediterranean Grill, Napa CA
Mmm, this lamb was really good! It was tender and juicy and so flavorful. I think a bit of tzatziki on the plate would have knocked it out of the park. I thought the kale and beans were tasty too.
