Buttermilk fried chicken – Ad Hoc

Buttermilk fried chicken - Ad Hoc
Pre fixe dinner $52 each
Ad Hoc, Yountville CA

We fortuitously were up in Yountville on a Monday when Ad Hoc had their fried chicken dinner, and oh, it was spectacular! The chicken is SO moist and tender and SO flavorful, NOMS! I don’t know how they prepare these things, but they’re doing it right. And look how much chicken they serve for only two people! I’m not complaining though because they made great leftovers the next day.

Roast pork loco moco – Street Food Dojo

Roast pork loco moco - Street Food Dojo
Pulled pork, rice, fried egg, dashi gravy. $9
Street Food Dojo, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this type of food certainly satiates any lunch time cravings I may have. The pork was so tender and flavorful and I loved the dashi gravy. It wasn’t too salty like most loco moco gravies out there. I just wish there was more of it! Unfortunately, I was still hungry after eating it all. 😦

Black angus flat iron steak – L’Ardoise

Black angus flat iron steak - L'Ardoise
Pan seared all natural Creekstone Farm steak, with pommes frites and St. Emilion sauce. $24
L’Ardoise, San Francisco CA

Wow, this dish was very rich (even as steak frites go). I think it was the St. Emilion sauce (which I’m guessing is a red wine-based sauce with lots of butter) that put it over the top. Even the lovely french fries couldn’t stand up to that heavy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, it was delicious, but you certainly get your fill after a few bites.

Grilled chicken cobb salad – Tender Greens

Grilled chicken cobb salad - Tender Greens
Romaine hearts, blue cheese, bacon, egg, tomato, avocado, tarragon dressing. $12
Tender Greens, San Francisco CA

This salad was good, but it was heavier than I expected. I know that cobb salads tend to be heavy anyway, but I figured that with the tarragon dressing and the tendency for Tenders Greens to make things a bit healthier, that this salad would be on the lighter side. Perhaps there was just a lot of it so I thought that it was heavier than it really was.

Pastrami reuben sandwich – Bouchon Bakery

Pastrami reuben sandwich - Bouchon Bakery
With sauerkraut and swiss cheese on marbled rye bread. $9.50
Bouchon Bakery, Yountville CA

This sandwich was actually really good, and I think it’s a much better value than the stupid quiche that you had to wait 20 minutes for! They probably could have piled on a few more slices of pastrami though.

Bouchon Bakery bag
To go bag. You kind of wanna run away from this place after the crazy wait!

House made cavatelli – Ad Hoc

House made cavatelli - Ad Hoc
Sage pork sausage, wilted tuscan kale, meyer lemon. Pre fixe dinner $52 each
Ad Hoc, Yountville CA

The texture of the cavatelli was great. It was firm and the shape was really fun. I loved the earthy flavors from the kale and pork sausage. This made a great accompaniment to the main courses.

Man of Leisure cocktail - Ad Hoc
Man of Leisure cocktail: Bulleit rye, Herencia blanco tequila, ginger beer. $13

Tiger prawn ravioles – L’Ardoise

Tiger prawn ravioles - L'Ardoise
With sauce vierge and fresh mixed herbs. $11
L’Ardoise, San Francisco CA

Wow, this appetizer certainly was rich! If I hadn’t looked it up, I would have been certain that the sauce vierge had cream in it. These ravioles simply melted and in your mouth and had a lovely seafood flavor. I’m not sure I could have eaten much more than half the dish though. I needed to save room for my large entree (and alcohol, lol).

This is place is great healthy-ish and delicious lunch option in downtown. They have rotating specials that make work week meals interesting. I really liked this tomato soup especially with the basil oil. It certainly looks pretty!

Ham and asparagus quiche – Bouchon Bakery

Ham and asparagus quiche - Bouchon Bakery
With greens. $9
Bouchon Bakery, Yountville CA

A nine dollar quiche that I had to wait 20 minutes for in an uncomfortable, dizzying mad-house? No thank you. I’ve learned my lesson. The quiche was tasty (probably because there was a pound of butter in it) but I couldn’t get over the wait and stress. If you must visit Bouchon Bakery, I would suggest not getting anything that needs to be heated up or prepared in any way. You’ll regret it.

Caesar salad – Ad Hoc

Caesar salad - Ad Hoc
Romaine hearts, Italian anchovies, brioche croutons, crispy capers, creamy parmesan dressing. Pre fixe dinner $52 each
Ad Hoc, Yountville CA

I really love a well balanced caesar salad, and this one was perfect. The brioche croutons and crispy capers added extra crunch against the delicious dressing, and the robust anchovies added a sporadic zing. Everything tasted so fresh, noms!

Cabernet sauvignon 2010 – Clos Du Val

Cabernet sauvignon 2010 - Clos Du Val
Stags Leap District. $80
Clos Du Val, Napa CA

This winery was pretty good. Our tasting attendant was cool and informative. They have reserved bungalows outside otherwise you have to sit in the common space to relax which is still fairly decent. I really liked this cabernet sauvignon so we bought a bottle to drink outside. Ahhh!
