This donut was pretty basic. The dough itself was on the dry side and the chocolate frosting was on the bland side. Meh.

Chocolate rise donut – Four Barrel Coffee

I’ve had the spiced chocolate doughnut here a couple times now, and I’ve got to say that I actually like this chocolate rise doughnut better. The chocolate spice has a weird aftertaste that I’m not fond of. This donut was moist and had a rich dark chocolate flavor, noms! $3

Coffee. $2.50
Ugh, I’m really not a fan of Four Barrel coffee. It’s too bland and weak. I’m a Philz fan!

Assorted malasadas – Leonard’s Bakery

Original (white sugar), cinnamon, and Li Hing sugar. 1 dozen $11.31
Leonard’s Bakery, Honolulu HI
Malasadas are Portuguese donuts without holes! Leonard’s Bakery is famous for them so I had to try some while I was in Honolulu. Boy, was it worth it! The malasadas were fresh out of the fryer and newly coated with sugar. They were still warm when I tried my first one and it was heaven! The dough was soft and flavorful, with a bit of chewiness and a dense center. Nom nom noms! I even sent some to Seattle for my brother cause he was craving them!

Original white sugar malasada. You definitely have to try one fresh and warm!

Tinto, Palm Springs CA
Mmm, I love bunuelos! These were pretty good and I enjoyed the date-olive oil ice cream too!

Chocolate flourless cake, chocolate mousse, passion fruit sorbet.
I think this was just a little too rich for me after a large meal. I couldn’t only eat a few bites before I had to quit. The flavors were good though.

Coffee and doughnuts – Twenty Five Lusk

House made brioche doughnuts, apricot creme patissiere filling, chocolate sauce. Gilt City brunch menu
Twenty Five Lusk, San Francisco CA
Ugh, the doughnuts were super dry and dense! They tasted old. It’s unfortunate that the one real misstep of the meal occurred at the end. The apricot filling, however, was delicious and the chocolate sauce was rich and tasty.

Half pint Anchor Steam ale.
Now this is my idea of a coffee and doughnut service! They randomly throw in some beer – heck yeah! 🙂

Small Soooo good coffee. $3
Philz Coffee, San Francisco CA
Ok, I need to stop eating Pepples donuts because there’s just way too much glaze and it hurts my teeth to bite through them. But I will never stop drinking Philz coffee – it’s like crack!

Pepples donuts are cakey and pretty much covered in glaze. While I enjoy that they’re vegan and organic, that thick sweet sugary glaze was just too much! Philz coffee is still my favorite. I swear there’s crack in it or something, lol!
