I don’t remember what kind of berries filled this cobbler because the dessert was a bit of a surprise and I was never able to see a dessert menu. Anyway, I loved it! Probably because cobblers are just plain great and surprise desserts are always welcomed – yay for me! Complimentary

Pineapple tarte tatin – Foreign Cinema

Huckleberry-rhubarb caramel, fleur de sel. $11
Foreign Cinema, San Francisco CA
This dessert was good, but not super memorable. The combination of flavors looked intriguing on paper, but they didn’t quite mesh naturally for me. I think the tarte tatin was well executed, but the sauce either wasn’t bold enough or just didn’t pair well with the pineapple.
Mascarpone cheesecake – Ad Hoc

TKO crust, pear compote, thyme anglaise. Pre fixe dinner $52 each
Ad Hoc, Yountville CA
If you’re wondering, TKO refers to large Oreo-like cookies made by Bouchon Bakery. So the crust of this dessert is made of them. And boy did I like this dessert! I wasn’t too sweet and the flavors were perfect. The pear and thyme were weird, and surprisingly good, flavor combinations that really elevated the smooth mascarpone cheesecake.

Apple tarte tatin – L’Ardoise

With whipped cream. $8
L’Ardoise, San Francisco CA
I love a good apple tarte tatin and this one was very yummy! I also loved the caramelization and beautiful color. Simple and delicious never fails to impress.

Baklava – Tarla Mediterranean Grill

Homemade walnut baklava, served with vanilla bean gelato. $7
Tarla Mediterranean Grill, Napa CA
Mmm, this was so good! I love baklava and when it’s paired with vanilla gelato, how can you say no?! The crushed pistachios were also a nice touch. Noms!

Dessert duo – Cafe Bastille

Pave chocolate creme brulee and raspberry key lime mousse. Three course dinner prix fixe $35
Cafe Bastille, San Francisco CA
These desserts were decent. They weren’t super fancy or delicious, but they were different enough from each other to hold my interest.

Espresso and pistachio macarons – Bouchon Bakery

Each $3.50
Bouchon Bakery, Yountville CA
Mmm, I love macarons! Bouchon Bakery is very popular and the wait can be ridiculously long. So were these macarons worth it? Hmm, I’d say so. They were nice and soft and very flavorful without being overly sweet.

Torta cioccolato- Pesce

Pecan crust, dark chocolate ganache, berries, cream, sea salt. $8
Pesce, San Francisco CA
This chocolate torte was super rich and yummy. The berries and whipped cream were nice to help cut the rich chocolate, and the coarse sea salt was the perfect addition.

Warm banana bread – 1760

‘Chunky monkey’ ice cream, peanut butter crunch. $9
1760, San Francisco CA
This was probably one of the better dishes I tried at 1760 and I’m not even a huge dessert person. That doesn’t mean that this dessert completely rocked, just that the other dishes weren’t all that good. I’m also a sucker for caramelized bananas! Although the plate was a little messy and chaotic, this dish tasted pretty yummy! (The banana bread could’ve been a little warmer though).

Americano. $3
Cookie crunch puff – Beard Papa’s

Cream puff with sugar cookie topping, filled with vanilla custard. $2.50
Beard Papa’s, San Francisco CA

Mmm, how I love Beard Papa’s cream puffs! I hadn’t seen this variety before so I decided to try it. The cookie crumble on top was actually really good, but these puffs are plenty good without them too.

Chocolate chip cookie – The Mill

Topped with coarse sea salt. $2.50
The Mill, San Francisco CA
This cookies was very tasty. I wish it was a little more chewy, but that’s just personal preference. The sea salt was a great touch!

Coffee. $2.50

The Bay Bridge from the Embarcadero.
Fried “chicken” torta – Dear Mom

Vegan “chicken” sandwich served with salad. $9
Dear Mom, San Francisco CA
This sandwich made by Hella Vegan Eats pop-up was actually pretty tasty. As you can see from my blog, I’m a total carnivore so this was a surprisingly pleasant change. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy the vegan food, but they tasted great and I didn’t even miss the meat. Will it convert me to veganism? Absolutely not, lol! But I applaud HVE for the great food.
