Memphis pulled pork sandwich – Roadside BBQ

Memphis pulled pork sandwich - Roadside BBQ
Slow-cooked and served lean and tender. Served Memphis style – topped with homemade coleslaw and a side of mac ‘n cheese. $8.95
Roadside BBQ, San Rafael CA

I’m back!!! Sorry I’ve been away for over a month. I had family obligations and then was traveling for work. But it’s nice to be back in San Francisco. Hope you all have been doing great!

This sandwich was very tasty. The pork had a nice smoky flavor to it, but it definitely benefited from a few healthy doses of bbq sauce while eating. I liked the mac and cheese but thought it could have been creamier.

Mr. Brisket sandwich – Roadside BBQ

Mr. Brisket sandwich - Roadside BBQ
Soaked for up to seventeen hours and topped with coleslaw and bbq sauce. Served with brisket baked beans. $8.95
Roadside BBQ, San Rafael CA

Mmm, this sandwich was delicious! The brisket was tender, flavorful, and had a nice smokey flavor. It was also great with the slaw on top. I think the bun was a little on the thick side – I like less bun for bbq. The baked beans were very tasty.

Lemonade and Diet Coke - Roadside BBQ

Bbq combo plate - 4505 Meats
Brisket, smoked chicken, pork spare ribs, with B&B pickles, coleslaw, potato salad, white bread. $15
4505 Meats, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this combo plate was delicious! It’s a bit pricy for a food stand at lunch, but the meats are certainly quality. I was really surprised at how tender and smoky the chicken was. It almost looked undercooked, but it was so juicy and perfect. The brisket and spare ribs were also super tasty. Noms!

Chicken and beef combo plate – Ono Hawaiian BBQ

Chicken and beef combo plate - Ono Hawaiian BBQ
Bbq chicken and bbq beef, served with two scoops of rice, one scoop macaroni salad, and vegetables.
Ono Hawaiian BBQ, San Francisco CA

Ugh, the beef was really dry and gristly! The chicken was ok. I appreciate that Hawaiian bbq is fatty but I think these were especially greasy, yuck. The scoop of macaroni salad did help to ease my disappointment.

Southern empanadas – Nola

Southern empanadas - Nola
Ground chuck, holy trinity, manchego, cotija and oaxacan cheeses, bbq sauce, salsa fresca, bbq cream sauce. Happy hour $5
Nola, Palo Alto CA

Omg, these were two large empanadas for only five bucks! Now that’s a great value. These were definitely filling and you could probably make an entire meal of these. I loved all the flavors and it was pretty tasty, but the empanada dough was on the thick side and slightly undercooked in parts.

Certified black angus beef brisket – Baby Blues BBQ

Certified black angus beef brisket - Baby Blues BBQ
1 pound $19.75
Baby Blues BBQ, San Francisco CA

I was SO disappointed when I opened the to-go bag and found this tiny container of meat that cost me twenty bucks! But one pound of beef is actually a lot of food – it just looked deceivingly small in the container. The brisket was good, but I’m still not convinced that it should cost so much.

OMG, I’ve found my go-to BBQ place in Palm Springs! The food here was amazing and very reasonably priced. The brisket was tender and smokey and the BBQ sauce was delicious. The light, spongy roll reminiscent of sliced white bread worked perfectly in this sandwich. The macaroni salad was unique, but I actually liked it. NOMS!

Wow, I was a bit shocked when this arrived to the table and there were only 4 tortilla chips on the plate, lol! But I have to say that they were really filling, and pretty tasty! I tend to overeat so I was secretly relieved that there was just enough to taste and enjoy. 🙂
