With guacamole and sour cream. Served with rice and black beans. $6.50
Rico Mex, San Francisco CA
Meh, these were fine but definitely not the best quality. I liked that they put plenty of guacamole on the enchiladas, but I probably won’t go back.

Xiao long bao. $12.95
Yank Sing, San Francisco CA
Mmm, these were really good! The wrapper was thin and delicate and the soup and pork filling were delicious. There were probably some of the better XLB I’ve had in a while!

Vinegar sauce with ginger.

Fava bean puree, ancho chile puree, summer squash and porcini salad, porcini mushroom puree.
Le Pigeon, Portland OR
I generally don’t get excited over fish dishes, but this was delicious and refreshing. The halibut was cooked perfectly – still tender and flavorful. The other ingredient and sauces were amazing with the fillet. Omg, I loved the ancho chile puree especially. Noms!

Brentwood corn, cherry tomato, heirloom cucumber, fennel, watercress, arugula, lemon vinaigrette. $12
Tender Greens, San Francisco CA
This grilled trout salad tasted good, but the trout fillet was really thin and didn’t feel substantial. It was also a pain and bothersome to pick through.

Locally caught rock cod in house beer batter, thick cut Kennebac fries and red cabbage slaw, aioli. $15
Horner’s Corner, San Francisco CA
Ugh, these fried fish were REALLY greasy, yuck! And they seemed over fried too. I think the oil temperature must have been off. The fries were ok, but I was expected them to be thicker cut as indicated by the menu description. They seem “normal” cut to me. Am I wrong? This was definitely not worth the price.

Bulleit bourbon Manhattan on the rocks. $10
I love single large ice cubes!

Arugula, fried artichoke. $18
Le Pigeon, Portland OR
Mmm, another delicious appetizer from Le Pigeon! The toast was rich and delicious and the duo of sauces worked perfectly with the main components. The fried artichoke was cooked perfectly and not greasy at all. So good!

Red wine.

Soba noodles, tuscan kale, mixed greens, sliced cucumber, diced red bell pepper, fresh oranges, cilantro, sweet asian chili glaze, sesame seeds, sesame ginger vinaigrette dressing. $10.29
Boudin Bakery and Cafe, San Francisco CA
Ugh, I did NOT like this salad. There was more soba noodles than kale, and the salmon was gross! It was definitely delivered frozen and it had a disgusting squishy texture with a slimy glaze. Yuck!

Bacon, green onion, cheddar. $3.25
Capers Cafe, Portland International Airport (PDX)
This scone was actually really good. I liked the light, crumbly texture and the savory ingredients were yummy. They also heated it up before serving so it was especially good.

Small coffee. $1.65

Jackfruit, seaweed, lovage, oyster dressing. $16
Le Pigeon, Portland OR
Omg, this was my favorite meal of my Portland trip! We sat at the counter and were entertained by watching the cooks the entire evening. Every dish was perfect and had a surprising and delicious combination of ingredients, textures, and flavors.
These scallops were delicate and lovely. I loved the random accompaniments that actually worked perfectly to create a perfect bite every time. Noms!

Baguette and salted butter. Complimentary

Masa steamed in banana leaves with mole negro, crispy duck confit and crema. $13
Taqueria Nueve, Portland OR
Mmm, this was SO good! I love the texture and flavor of the masa, and the duck confit was delicious! I also loved the presentation with the unwrapped banana leaves and sprinkling of greens.

Wood Fir’d Manhattan: Woodford Reserve bourbon, sweet vermouth and amarena cherry served up. $10
Doug Fir Lounge, Portland OR
Mmm, all these cocktail were delicious! Thanks, Simon!

Jean-Luc Pearcard: Grey Goose Le’poire, St. Germaine, lemon juice and simple syrup served up. $8

Takes Time: Slow & Low rye whiskey, amarena cherries, fresh orange, whiskey barrel aged bitters served on the rocks. $7.50

Fried chicken, bacon & cheese, egg, topped with gravy. $9
Pine State Biscuits, Portland OR
This is a definite gut buster! It has all the ingredients I love, but it actually didn’t deliver. The gravy was really salty, the biscuit was too dense, and the fried chicken was too greasy. Ugh, what happened? This place was highly recommended, but I think it fell short. Boo…
