Kouign amann – Four Barrel Coffee

Kouign amann - Four Barrel Coffee
Breton cake with layers of butter and sugar. $4
Four Barrel Coffee, San Francisco CA

This was a delicious, buttery treat! I don’t think I would normally order this because it looks kinda boring in a display case, but it’s absolutely exquisite. This flaky pastry is surprisingly complex from the multiple layers and condensed form. Loved it!

Pink passion flower (Passiflora caerulea X rubra, Passifloraceae)
Pink passion flower (Passiflora caerulea X rubra, Passifloraceae), San Jose Avenue. This hardy perennial vine caught my eye as I was randomly walking down the street. I particularly loved the 2-toned filamentous anthers!

Sopa de tortilla – Chilango

Sopa de tortilla - Chilango
Traditional Mexican tortilla soup with chicken broth, chicken, avocado, potato, carrot, celery, and queso fresco. Lunch pre fixe (prifex fijo) $15
Chilango, San Francisco CA

Tortilla soup is SO warm and comforting. I’d venture to say even more so than regular chicken noodle soup. It definitely has more flavor! Often times, this soup is made way too salty, but Chilango’s version is perfect. You get all the comfort and flavor that you’re looking for without the salt overload.

This is a perfect waffle, noms! The outside has a slight crispness while the center remains fluffy, and it tastes amazing. Pair it with some espresso and you’ll have an amazing morning!

F-Line Muni red streetcar
F-Line Muni red streetcar, 17th Street. I love the fleet of historic streetcars that run along Market Street and The Embarcadero. They’re a little slow, but it always puts a smile on my face to ride them.

Fried mac ‘n cheese – Fork Cafe

Fried mac 'n cheese - Fork Cafe
Two macaroni and cheese squares dipped in breadcrumbs and fried to a golden brown. Served with sliced cherry tomatoes and a sweet dipping sauce. $8.95
Fork Cafe, San Francisco CA

Mmm, fried mac and cheese! How can you go wrong? These were beautifully fried and tasted great. The dipping sauce was a little too sweet for me, but that’s a minor detail. I will say, however, that I thought the price point was a bit high for this kind of dish and the portion size. It was delicious though!

Andean silver-leaf sage (Salvia discolor, Lamiaceae)

Andean silver-leaf sage (Salvia discolor, Lamiaceae), Divisadero Street. I love the dark purple, almost black flowers of this herbaceous perennial that are constrasted by the light silvery leaves.
