Crab noodle salad – Dragonfly

Project 365: Day 109

It’s finally hitting me that I’m leaving for Europe in a couple of days! I’m still doing all my laundry and planning all my outfits, hehe. What sucks is that it’s going to be raining the entire time that we’re there. It’ll be fun traveling Hubbs. This will only be his second time outside the US. After this trip, I’ll have been to 20 countries. I know that’s not a lot, but I’m still happy that I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to travel.

Crab and seaweed salad tossed with glass noodles and chili garlic sauce. $10

Another disappointment. There was almost no crab in there, and the seaweed made everything too slimey. I thought maybe the glass noodles would balance out the slime, but they didn’t. Yuck!

Project 365: Day 98

This is the penultimate day of my work trip in Charleston, yay! I fly back to San Francisco tomorrow morning. I’ve suggested to my co-instructor that we have a final dinner together to celebrate the end of the course. I think I’ll take him to The Glass Onion. I’ve been there before and the food is great and reasonably priced. They also have a varied selection so I’m sure that he’ll find something that he likes.

It’s been great teaching with him. He’s definitely nice enough and easy to talk to. He was mostly a hotel hermit though, but I didn’t mind since that allowed me to use the rental car whenever I wanted. Hehe!

Project 365: Day 99

I’m SO glad to be back home!!! I’ve missed my bed. I’ve missed my dog. I’ve even missed the work office. And I’ve missed Silverfox! We’re going to have dinner tonight at Starbelly. I’m looking forward to eating a wonderfully delicious, California-cooked meal. I have to go into work tomorrow (Friday) and them I’ll have an entire weekend to relax and do nothing. Just sit around and enjoy being home.

Egg flower soup – Xiao Long Bao Kitchen

Hot soup with egg, seaweed, and tofu. Complimentary with lunch special.

This was  a new one for me! I’ve never had a Chinese egg drop soup with seaweed in it. It wasn’t bad, but just different. There was nothing else in there – no tofu or vegetables. Kinda weird, but not untasty.

The Real Korean "taco" – Namu

The Real Korean taco Namu

Ssam style “taco”, seasoned rice, daikon and kimchee salsa, kimchee remoulade, housemade teriyaki sauce, folded into Japanese and Korean toasted seaweed, with beef. $3
Namu, San Francisco

I love food stands and Namu is one of the best at the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market. This taco was pretty spectacular! I love the exciting combination of flavors and textures, and the kimchee remoulade knocked my socks off. The beef was also very tender and had a great grilled flavor. The only thing I didn’t like was that the double layer of seaweed was impossible to bite through. Maybe they could use drier seaweed or maybe only use one sheet. The taco is messy to eat already because of the abundance of toppings but fighting the seaweed wrapper made it oh so much messier.

BBQ pork ramen – Katana-Ya

BBQ pork ramen Katana-Ya

Ramen in a soy broth with 4 pieces of BBQ pork, bamboo shoots, seaweed, and scallions.  $11
Katana-Ya, San Francisco

This char siu ramen is on the 7×7 Big Eat List 2011, but frankly, I wasn’t impressed.  Perhaps I’m just not a ramen expert, but the I didn’t find anything exceptional about it.  My favorite part was the bamboo shoots and the pork was pretty tender, but I think the soup was too rich for my taste.

San Francisco roll – Crazy Sushi

San Francisco roll Crazy Sushi

8 piece roll with spicy tuna, avocado, and topped with a seaweed salad.
Crazy Sushi, San Francisco

When a sushi joint names a roll after San Francisco, I expect it to be amazing.  This one didn’t blow my mind, but I did enjoy it.  What can I say, I’m a sucker for spicy tuna, and the seaweed salad on top freshened it up and had a nice texture.  I’ve been to Crazy Sushi before and I wasn’t impressed, but this time around they surprised me.  All the sushi we had was fresh and distinct.  And you can’t beat the price!  Will definitely return if the quality remains high.

Here’s the assorted sushi we ordered. It not only tasted good, but I think that it looks good too.
