Walrus platter #1 & Jonah crab claws – Old Ebbitt Grill

Walrus platter #1 & Jonah crab claws - Old Ebbitt Grill
3 oysters, 3 clams, 1 shrimp. Happy hour $7.98
Half dozen crab claws. Happy hour $9.95
Old Ebbitt Grill, Washington DC

This was a great happy hour deal for seafood! I’m still not a fan of the larger east coast oysters but they definitely go down easier when they’re discounted, hehe! I’m also not sure that I really liked the clams (just not my style I guess). The crab claws were great though!

Beef pastrami hash – Founding Farmers

Beef pastrami hash - Founding Farmers
Poached eggs, onion, bell pepper, hollandaise. $8
Founding Farmers, Washington DC

This was disgusting and sad! The pastrami hash was really dry and overly salty, the poached eggs were rock hard, and the hollandaise sauce was congealed onto the eggs. The plate had obviously spent too much time under the heat lamp or something (or perhaps it was poorly made from the start). I’m not sure why everyone kept raving about Founding Farmers? I wasn’t impressed on either of the two times I dined there.

Harp battered fish tacos – Fado Irish Pub

Harp battered fish tacos - Fado Irish Pub
With a spicy red chili aioli, cabbage, green onion, tomato pico, and cilantro. Happy hour $5
Fado Irish Pub, Washington DC

For discounted happy hour food, these tacos were pretty amazing! The beer battered fish were fried perfectly and very tasty, and the toppings were fresh and bright. Noms!

Traditional guacamole – El Centro D.F.

Traditional guacamole - El Centro D.F.
Avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro, chile serrano. $10
El Centro D.F., Washington DC

I did not like this guacamole at all! There was a sharpness and odd flavor that I couldn’t identify. I appreciated that they finished the guacamole tableside, but I would have preferred less of a show and more of a better product.

Pumpkin ravioli – District Commons

Pumpkin ravioli - District Commons
Sage brown butter, amaretto crumble. $15
District Commons, Washington DC

This had great flavors and I liked the sage brown butter, but I thought that the whole thing was a bit dry. You can even see that the ravioli pasta was dry and starting to curl up at the edges. Perhaps the plate sat under the warmer too long – the service WAS a bit slow.
