Morcilla sandwich – Pepe

Morcilla sandwich - Pepe
House made morcilla, cebolla escabeche, spinach, fig, herbed cream cheese, fried Coulter Farm organic egg. $14
Pepe, Washington DC

This sandwich was delicious! But then I would expect it to for fourteen bucks (even from a food truck). It certainly was a fancy food truck sandwich though. The fried blood sausage was delicious and I loved its texture. And of course the runny fried egg just put it over the top.

Corned beef hash – de Vere’s Irish Pub

Corned beef hash - de Vere's Irish Pub
Two eggs over medium, breakfast potatoes, red bell pepper, red onion, Irish brown bread. $11.99
de Vere’s Irish Pub, Sacramento CA

This hash was decent. I liked the Irish brown bread since it was a nice departure from my usual wheat toast. It was a bit dry but was fine with the butter slathered on.

Almost bottomless mimosas - de Vere's Irish Pub
Almost bottomless mimosas. $10

Lamb burger – Pinea

Lamb burger - Pinea
Harissa, feta, cucumber, yogurt, polenta fries. $17
Pinea, Washington DC

This lamb burger was really delicious, but I think seventeen bucks was a bit much for a lunchtime burger. Although the food was good, it was on the pricey side. The cocktail was also fifteen bucks, d-oh! I did like the tender, juicy patty, cool tzatziki, spicy harissa and trimmed lettuce. The polenta fries were also killer!

Old Square cocktail - Pinea
Old Square: Knob Creek rye, Remy VS, Dolin Rouge, benedictine, apple bitters. $15

Huevos rancheros – Cafe Mystique

Huevos rancheros - Cafe Mystique
Corn tortillas topped with homemade salsa, black beans, avocado, with two eggs over easy with cheddar cheese, served with potatoes. $8.95
Cafe Mystique, San Francisco CA

Meh, this was ok. It was on the bland side as huevos rancheros go. The potatoes were utterly bland and useless throw-away items. I liked the look of the dish, but I was not fulfilled in any way. And again with the SLOW-ass service/kitchen!

2 meat plate – Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

2 meat plate - Dickey's Barbecue Pit
Texas style chopped beef brisket, pork ribs, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and roll. $13.20
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)

This bbq was pretty good. The beef brisket had a lot of flavor and so did the ribs. The ribs could have been a bit more tender, but they taste good enough. I also loved their mac and cheese. It took me back to school lunches growing up, lol! Win!

Eggs blackstone – Lark Creek Grill

Eggs blackstone - Lark Creek Grill
Poached eggs, Zoe’s bacon, tomato, English muffin, lemon hollandaise. $14.75
Lark Creek Grill, San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Mmm, this tasted great! And I don’t usually say that about airport food. I loved the all the ingredients in the eggs blackstone and the breakfast potatoes were fabulous! Why can’t the food at Yankee Pier be nearly as good? They’re the same restaurant group?

Mimosa - Lark Creek Grill

Turkish delight – Zaytinya

Turkish delight - Zaytinya
Walnut ice cream, yogurt mousse, honey gelee, orange-caramel sauce, caramelized pine nuts. Mezze lunch $25
Zaytinya, Washington DC

Mmm, this dessert was SO good! I loved that it wasn’t too sweet, and all the different textures and flavors were lovely. It was fun scooping up the delicious orange-caramel sauce from the bottom for a perfect spoonful.

Castro scramble – Cafe Mystique

Castro scramble - Cafe Mystique
Spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, bell pepper, cheddar cheese. Served with breakfast potatoes. $8.95
Cafe Mystique, San Francisco CA

This scramble was good enough I guess. It was nothing special. What I didn’t like was the horrendously SLOW service! Omg, move your feet, man! And the lone cooks needs to speed things up too! There wasn’t even many diners to cook for!

Bloody mary cocktail - Cafe Mystique

Phillips seafood sampler – Phillips Famous Seafood

Phillips seafood sampler - Phillips Famous Seafood
Crab cake minis, crispy shrimp and calamari, trio of dipping sauces. $14.49
Phillips Famous Seafood, Charlotte International Airport (CLT)

Ew, this was disgusting! Everything on this plate was dry, over-fried, and flavorless. Even the crab cakes were from the fryer. Who cooks crab cakes in a fryer?! Gross.

Angry Orchard cider - Phillips Famous Seafood
Angry Orchard cider. Bottle $6.49
Thank goodness for alcohol at airports, lol!

Combination pizza – &pizza

Combination pizza - &pizza
Prosciutto, pepperoni, sausage, artichoke, sun dried tomato, fresh mozzarella.
&pizza, Washington DC

I don’t even remember everything I had added to the pizza, lol! That’s what I love about &pizza – you can add as many toppings as you want and it’s still the same price. I will say that there’s something to be said about a simple, classic pizza but &pizza was still new to me that I wanted to try everything. 🙂
