Piggly Wiggly: red sauce, mozzarella, smoked bacon, roast garlic, mushroom, tomato, 4 cheeses. Meat Combo: pepperoni, hot sausage, black olives, onion, mozzarella. Each $3

There’s something really comforting about the combination of hot melted mozzarella and greasy pepperoni, lol! I guess that’s why I loved the meat combo slice. 🙂

This is my newest way to order my In-N-Out burgers! Animal style with chiles, noms! These are super saucy and flavorful. One burger constitutes an entire for me. And I’m officially in eater heaven…

These large slices tasted great, especially at three bucks a pop! The ingredient combinations worked really well, and I particularly liked the Piggly Wiggly slice.

Chicken tacos – Ruby’s Diner

Chicken tacos - Ruby's Diner
Grilled chicken, vegetarian black beans, lettuce, shredded cheese, secret taco sauce, housemade salsa, green onions, flour tortilla. Served with guacamole and sour cream. $9.99
Ruby’s Diner, Cabazon CA

These tacos were pretty. Lame they were bland and super basic. They seemed more like stuffed quesadillas than proper tacos. Obviously, Ruby did not grow up in a Latino community…

Caldo Tlalpeno con pollo – Nopalito

Caldo Tlalpeno con pollo - Nopalito
Chicken consomme, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, garbanzos, avocado, queso fresco and chipotle abodabo. $13
Nopalito, San Francisco CA

This soup was very flavorful, but surprisingly light compared to something like a pozole. I didn’t know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. The flavors were subtle but well developed. I was tickled by the dried whole pepper plopped in the middle.

WhipOut slider & Fried chicken pups – WhipOut! Food Truck

WhipOut slider & Fried chicken pups - WhipOut! Food Truck
Beef burger with 4 oz ground chuck, truck-smoked cheddar, dill pickle, signature sauce, pickled red onion, romaine. $6.50
Bite-sized truck-smoked thigh pieces, buttermilk battered, bbq dipping sauce. $5.50
WhipOut! Food Truck, San Francisco CA

I liked the flavors of the slider but it was sitting in a pool of grease that completely soaked into the bottom bun, boo! I’m not sure if the grease was from the chicken pups or from the beef patty and cheese but it was gross! The top bun was also too thick for the small size of the slider. The fried chicken pups weren’t very good either. They were REALLY greasy and over-fried. They were really hard to chew and super salty! Overall, this was a failed lunch.

Cheesesteak – The Grove

Cheesesteak - The Grove
Creek Stone Farm Black angus flank steak, fontina, roasted sweet onion, hot and sweet peppers. Served with Kettle chips and a pickle. $11.50
The Grove, San Francisco CA

I guess when I ordered this, I expected it to arrive more as a traditional cheesesteak sandwich rather than a panini. It’s not really what I wanted, but it tasted ok. I thought it was on the dry side and the batard was hard.

Rice bowl – Onigilly

Rice bowl - Onigilly
Soboro (ginger-honey braised ground beef), unagi (broiled fresh water eel with sweet bbq sauce), and salmon (grilled Scottish salmon with shio koji sauce). Organic mixed greens, edamame, pickles. $10.11
Onigilly, San Francisco CA

I liked the fillings of this rice bowl, but it just wasn’t enough food to fill me up for lunch especially for costing more than ten bucks. It was mostly rice and salad. I thought the unagi and soboro tasted great though.

Double cheeseburger – Gott’s Roadside

Double cheeseburger - Gott's Roadside
Fresh ground Niman Ranch beef patties cooked medium well, a little pink inside when served with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and secret sauce on a toasted egg bun. $10.99
Gott’s Roadside, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this was delicious, but perhaps a regular cheeseburger (1 patty) would have done it for me. This ate really easily, but it was like a brick in my stomach. I didn’t look THAT big but it certainly filled me up, literally! 🙂
