Hot wings – KFC

Hot wings - KFC
2 pieces ¥12
KFC, Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)

I was starving after my flight from Seoul, so I had to grab a quick snack before boarding the speed train into Shanghai. KFC was conveniently located on the way to the train, so I decided to have a couple wings. These were just like the ones in the States in both texture and taste. It was nice to eat something familiar even though it was fast food.

Almond chicken & Kimchi fish – Asiana Airlines

Almond chicken & Kimchi fish - Asiana Airlines
Rice, bread, bologna salad, lemon cake. Complimentary
ICN – PVG, Asiana Airlines

This seemed hilarious to me. Flying from Seoul to Shanghai, it was funny that the enough was half Korean (kimchi rice) and half Chinese (almond chicken) food separated by a wall of steamed rice. 🙂 Anyway, none of it tasted good. The bologna salad was beyond me. I don’t know why anyone would eat such a thing.

Short rib hot pot soup – Son Soo Heon

Short rib hot pot soup - Son Soo Heon
₩12,000
Son Soo Heon, Incheon International Airport (ICN)

This wasn’t very good. The broth was almost flavorless and the short rib was tough and difficult to eat. I was in a bit of a rush, but I don’t think I would have spent much time eating this anyway. It was lame, even for airport food.

Banchan - Son Soo Heon
Banchan: kimchi, ocotpus, steamed rice, and (?). Complimentary

Pastries – Millennium Seoul Hilton

Mandarin and cherry danish - Millennium Seoul Hilton
Mandarin and cherry danish. Complimentary in Executive Lounge
Millennium Seoul Hilton, Seoul SOUTH KOREA

I enjoyed the variety of breakfast pastries available at the Executive Lounge. They had enough to keep me interested each morning. They still weren’t going to win any awards with this “usually” dry pastries, but they were better than your typical bread and muffins.

Meat grill mandu – Namdaemun Market

Meat grill mandu - Namdaemun Market
Glass noodles, green onion. ₩1,500
Namdaemun Market, Seoul SOUTH KOREA

This large mandu was actually fried, not grilled. I’m not 100% sure what kind of “meat” this was composed of, but I’m pretty certain it was ground pork. I liked this as a market-time snack. I liked the texture of the fried exterior, but I wish the filling was seasoned a bit more.

Galbi short rib tacos – Vatos Urban Tacos

Galbi short rib tacos - Vatos Urban Tacos
Marinated short rib, ssamjang aioli, Asian slaw, cilantro, onion, roasted sesame seeds. ₩7,900
Vatos Urban Tacos, Seoul SOUTH KOREA

These tacos were great! The short rib was so flavorful and the ssamjang aioli was super tasty. The tortillas were really different too. They almost seemed like they were made from rice instead of corn. It seemed fitting.

Chips and salsa - Vatos Urban Tacos
Chips and salsa. Complimentary

Breakfast plate #2 – Millennium Seoul Hilton

Breakfast plate #2 - Millenium Seoul Hilton
Smoked salmon, capers, cucumber, onion, cheese, and crackers. Complimentary in Executive Lounge
Millennium Seoul Hilton, Seoul SOUTH KOREA

This was definitely the lighter side of breakfast. I liked that Hilton provides these options. The cucumbers were dry though. It seemed like they had been sitting out for a while.
