Chocolate and fried chestnuts. Bar seating $180
Pineapple & Pearls, Washington DC
This sweet potato ice cream had a beautiful color and it tasted great. I loved the crunchy and soft accompaniments, and everything worked so well together.

Artichoke soup with leeks and fenugreek. Butternut squash soup with chestnuts and Ethiopian curry. Pre fixe menu
Radio Africa & Kitchen, San Francisco CA
The artichoke soup was really delicious, and nice and warm. The butternut squash soup on the other hand was cold and not very appetizing because of it. Thank goodness there were two to choose from.
Crab salad crostini. Complimentary
These were delicious little bites compliments of the chef. I liked that it was made with real crab and not imitation.

Golden apple, sage, maitake, sherry. Bloomspot 4-course chef’s tasting menu with cocktail pairings for two.
Maven, San Francisco CA
I purchased a Bloomspot dining certificate for this restaurant because I wanted to try it out for the first time. Overall, the food and cocktails were good and the certificate proved to be a great value (unlike some others I’ve purchased). All the food were shared plates, and we were pleasantly surprised at the generous portions we received especially with this pasta course. There were plenty of ravioli to share between us and the dish tasted amazing!
Fireside Cocktail: rye, chestnut, apple, cinnamon, lemon, egg white.
The cocktails ended up being smaller portions than normal, but I didn’t mind since we were served different cocktails with each course. I didn’t want to get too drunk, hehe. I enjoyed the Fireside cocktail and thought it paired wonderfully with the chestnut ravioli.

With celery root, parmesan, black trumpet mushrooms. New Year four-course tasting menu $80
RN74, San Francisco
This was very rich, creamy, and delicious. I like the bits of chopped chestnuts, they provided great texture and flavor. The black trumpet mushrooms were also delicious. I think the white dollop on top was mascarpone.
With butternut squash, quince, arugula, olio nuevo olive oil, chestnut vinaigrette. New Year four-course tasting menu $80
RN74, San Francisco
This was tasty! I love the combination of sweet, earthy beets and peppery arugula. The vinaigrette and diced toppings were also lovey.
Bread and butter with salt. I love real butter, SO good!
Golden fried bags filled with chicken, shrimp, chestnut, corn and vermicelli noodles. Thai-style vegetable egg rolls served with sweet and sour sauce. Krua appetizer sampler, $11
Krua Thai, San Francisco
The gold bags were so cute! Alan told me that they tie them closed with vermicelli noodles and they shrivel up once they’re deep fried. Ingenious! This is pretty much the same appetizer served two different ways – in bags and in rolls. They were both very tasty!
