Oysters on the half shell – Swan Oyster Depot

Oysters on the half shell - Swan Oyster Depot
Blue point, miyagi, and kumamoto. Half dozen $15
Swan Oyster Depot, San Francisco CA

This place is great! Perhaps a bit expensive, but the seafood is fresh, delicious, and worth it. I also like the super casual atmosphere and the friendly workers. It’s definitely a testosterone-filled environment. These oysters were small, briny, nicely cleaned, and very tasty!

Omakase – Ichi Sushi + Ni Bar

Omakase - Ichi Sushi + Ni Bar
Ichi Sushi + Ni Bar, San Francisco CA

Wow, the nigiri served during my omakase were, for the most part, pretty amazing! The fish was fresh and melted in my mouth. The rice on my first offering was dry though and the cut of fish was gristly and tough to chew. My kampachi was just plain gross and I actually couldn’t chew through the piece. Some of the fish were also unevenly cut, but besides that they tended to be great. The ocean trout was especially good and literally melted in my mouth!

I tried labeling most of the nigiri below, but I’m not sure how accurate my memory was with the identifications. Please correct me if I’m wrong with any of them.

They also brought me the wrong beer, but didn’t charge me for their mistake so I got a free glass of beer out of it. I appreciated that they took responsibility for their mistake and comped the beer. Good job!

Wow, this salumi plate was delicious! Each variety had a unique flavor and texture and I enjoyed every one. I love that they cure all of it in-house, and I also liked the super thin cuts. Noms!

Mmm, so hot and greasy! The sausages are great here, but I have to give it to them when it comes to the toppings. They’re great and they definitely pile it on. Pair it with a some beer and you have a great meal.

Pickled jalapeno, citrus ponzu. Happy hour 3 food items for $22
The Source, Washington DC

This is a pretty good appetizer! You can choose any 3 items on their lounge menu for twenty two bucks. Count me in! This sashimi was ok. I question the freshness of the fish. It didn’t taste old or bad, but it also didn’t taste super fresh.

Pork belly steamed buns – Momofuku Ssam Bar

Pork belly steamed buns - Momofuku Ssam Bar
Hoisin, cucumber, scallion. $10
Momofuku Ssam Bar, New York NY

The super fatty pork belly pieces had a great flavor, but there was just too much grease everywhere! The buns were literally soaked in grease from the pool underneath. Even the cucumbers couldn’t cut the flavor of the grease. I loved the hot sauce that came in the tiny squirt bottle (although it wasn’t very hot).

Dynamite Wasabi: tuna, salmon, yellow tail, wasabi fish roe. $8.50

These rolls were ok. The sushi rice was really dry though so I couldn’t get over that part. I liked the flavors of both, but they were difficult to eat because of the crappy rice.
