Imperial Peking duck – Hong Kong Lounge II

Imperial Peking duck - Hong Kong Lounge II
Fresh scallions, hoisin sauce and buns. $20
Hong Kong Lounge II, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this peking duck was great. I loved all the delicious skin and the meat was tender and flavorful. The buns were a bit on the dry side though and they kept tearing.

Somtum with salty crab – Sai Jai Thai Restaurant

Somtum with salty crab - Sai Jai Thai Restaurant
Thai papaya salad with mixed with dried shrimp, fresh garlic, chili, lemon and fish sauce. $7.50
Sai Jai Thai Restaurant, San Francisco

Um, I was NOT a fan of this. The papaya salad was good enough, but the salty crab was not my style. It was slimy and super hard. You couldn’t bite through it and I don’t think that there was much meat in there, so I’m not sure that it was even edible. I would have loved to have someone instruct me on how to eat those crab pieces.

Lamb loin and belly – Aziza

Lamb loin and belly - Aziza
Barley, English peas, pea tendrils. $32
Aziza, San Francisco CA

Wow, I loved this. The sauce was especially delicious and the plate was beautiful! The lamb tasted great but it came out more rare than I wanted. I couldn’t eat much of the center of the loin portion.

Margherita pizza – Una Pizza Napoletana

Margherita pizza - Una Pizza Napoletana
San Marzano tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh basil, sea salt. $25
Una Pizza Napoletana, San Francisco CA

This tasted great, but I still wasn’t a fan of the thick doughy crust. The toppings were wonderful though. It was great watching the owner make all the pizzas though.

Crispy salt and pepper soft shell crab – Hong Kong Lounge II

Crispy salt and pepper soft shell crab - Hong Kong Lounge II
$10
Hong Kong Lounge II, San Francisco CA

I love soft shell crab and this actually had a good flavor, but it was SUPER greasy! I like the texture and flavor of tempura fried food, but they didn’t do a good job of executing this. Lame! And I’m going to mention that horrible management scandal complete with employee harassment and under-payment. Extra FAIL!

Angel wings – Sai Jai Thai Restaurant

Angel wings - Sai Jai Thai Restaurant
Stuffed chicken wings with silver noodles, minced chicken and black mushrooms. Served with sweet and sour sauce. $7.95
Sai Jai Thai Restaurant, San Francisco

Mmm, these were so good! I can’t very well complain about stuffed and fried chicken wings (although sometimes they get super dry), and these were cooked nicely. This tasted great!

Apollonia pizza – Una Pizza Napoletana

Apollonia pizza - Una Pizza Napoletana
Eggs, salame, parmiggiano reggiano, buffalo mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, fresh basil, black pepper, sea salt. $25
Una Pizza Napoletana, San Francisco CA

Um, I thought I’d like this pizza more because of all the hype. I mean, it was good but I guess it just wasn’t my style. The crust was too chewy and almost felt undercooked. I like the combination of toppings in the Apollonia though.

Matcha cruffin – Mr. Holmes Bakehouse

Matcha cruffin - Mr. Holmes Bakehouse

Matcha cruffin - Mr. Holmes Bakehouse
Yes, I admit it! I waited in that stupid cruffin line for over an hour to try one of these things, and I don’t even like matcha (totally got screwed on the rotating flavors). But I’m also going to admit that these were AMAZING! Each person is only allowed 2 cruffins and you’ll definitely eat both and want another – they’re SO delicious, NOMS!
