Aria Pizzeria and Bar, Washington DC
This place is now closed and thank god! The service here was SO frickin’ horrible! And this pizza sucked.

Hot shredded muskovy duck and crispy skin, lettuce, scallions and hoisin sauce. $9.50
Wicked Waffle, Washington DC
I liked the duck more than the waffle. The duck tasted great and I like that they included the skin. I don’t think that the lettuce was necessary though – it just got wilty. The Belgian style waffle was kinda hard and dry so it was not my favorite. The workers were also pretty slow here.

Washington Monument.

Rare roast beef, ranch mayo, house made atomic cheese whiz. $9
Red Apron Butchery, Washington DC
Mmm, this sandwich was delicious! This was a fancy version of the Arby’s beef and cheddar sandwich (which I love, btw) and it was done right! I loved the cheese whz and the ranch mayo, and the beef was superb. Well done Red Apron!

Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

At the Crafty Bastards Fair and Union Market. $5
New Belgium Brewing Company, Washington DC
Nothing beats a nice cold beer while walking around in the hot sun at an arts and crafts fair, lol! This beer was actually really tasty!

Union Market.

Squash, fresh cheese, tomato ginger aioli. Happy hour $6
Vinoteca, Washington DC
Mmm, these were SO delicious! I loved the texture of the croquettes and they tasted great with the tomato ginger aioli.

Breadline sculpture, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial.

Blueberry buckwheat pancakes with maple syrup and butter. $6.25
Market Lunch, Washington DC
These pancakes were pretty good but I was expecting more from all the great reviews I’ve read about them. I actually think mine were too thick and undercooked.

Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

Lemon potatoes. $21
Kapnos, Washington DC
Finally, something that I really enjoyed at Kapnos (besides the eggplant spread), but I still think it was a bit over-priced. At least it was delicious.

Arts and Industries Building.

$7.50
Sine Irish Pub, Arlington VA
I ducked into the bar at Sine because I needed to kill time before meeting some friends for a cooking class at Sur La Table. The server was nice, but later disappeared for a long time right when I needed to leave. It always happens that way, doesn’t it?

Alexandria City Hall.

Vanilla ice cream, whipped creme fraiche. $8
Le Diplomate, Washington DC
This dessert was delicious! But then I do love tarte tatins. This one was especially good and beautiful. I loved the large apple wedges and their magnificent color. The fruit still had a pleasant firmness to them which made them even better. Noms!

Cafe latte. $4.50

Orchids, US Botanic Garden Conservatory.

Golden raisin, caperberry, smoked chili, sunflower seed. Happy hour $9
Vinoteca, Washington DC
I really liked this dish too! The beef was delicious and the garnishes complimented it perfectly. I also thought the presentation was simple and pretty.

National World War II Memorial – “Philippines”.

With fried green tomatoes, green chile cheese grits, and bread. $21.80
Market Lunch, Washington DC
This seafood combo plate was good, but I don’t know if it was worth the price. I ordered it with the fried rock fish upgrade and it was fine (albeit greasy), but I don’t know if it would have tasted substantially better than the normal fried fish. I did love the grits, but I should have scooped the butter out before all of it melted on top. I wasn’t impressed with the crab cake. It was too dense for me and a bit greasy. The fried green tomatoes were great though.

Thinker on a Rock, National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.

Ancient grain salad. $16
Kapnos, Washington DC
The lamb tasted pretty good, but I thought that the presentation was a bit of a mess and the cuts (scraps) were sad. There were also lots dry pieces which was unfortunate.

White House North Lawn.
