Side $3.75
Baby Blues BBQ, San Francisco CA
Mmm, this version was so cheesy and delicious! The pasta was cooked well (slightly on the soft side) and they were large enough to hold plenty of cheese for each bite. Noms!

I ducked into the Mercado section to kill some time before meeting some friends nearby. The service was nonexistent and the sangria was sugary sweet. Yuck! And for eight bucks for a tiny glass of it, definitely even more lame! $8
La Urbana, San Francisco CA

Red wine, red onion, ancho cress, green peppercorns. $26
A16, San Francisco CA
Eh, I wasn’t very impressed with this dish. I felt like it could have been more rich and flavorful, and the sauce could have been a little thicker. There also wasn’t any starch or something carb-y to balance the dish. Thank goodness we ordered a side of polenta.

Masciarelli, ‘Marina Cvetic’, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, San Martino Sulla Marrucina, Chieti, Abruzzo 2009. $16

Guacamole, cheese, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream. $9.75
Andale Mexican Restaurant, San Francisco CA
These nachos were good, but definitely on the salty side. The pork could have been more flavor but they were tender enough. I did like that they used cotija cheese.

With roasted potatoes, sautéed vegetables, and mushrooms.
Firewood Cafe, San Francisco CA
Wow, this was a lot of food! The pork was ok, a bit on the dry side, but it was definitely hearty and healthier since it was pretty lean. This was a nightly special, and I’m glad that we gave it a try.

Freshly dug, crispy new potatoes, lightly smoked, braves salsa and garlic aioli. $8
Coqueta, San Francisco CA
I must admit that despite my horrible dining experience here, these patatas bravas were frickin’ amazing! These were probably some of the best patatas bravas I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot. I’m still skeptical of this restaurant, but at least I know that they have a dish that I’ll enjoy.

Brown rice, lettuce, red cabbage, carrot, pickled radish, bean sprouts, grilled onion, finely sliced egg. With fried egg and bibimbar spicy sauce. $10.95
BibimBar, San Francisco CA
This wasn’t the best bibim I’ve had, but it was decent for the price. I liked that you could customize the toppings and sauces though. And there was a decent variety of items to choose from. It was fast and convenient so I’ll probably go back. I just wish they’d throw in a bit more protein.

Served with spicy/sour vegetable soup.

Olive oil, grana padano. $7
A16, San Francisco CA
Mmm, this polenta was SO wonderful. The exterior had a nice crust but the interior was still soft and luscious. The olive oil and cheese just gave it that much more flavor. Yum.

Broccoli, elephant garlic. $30
Rich Table, San Francisco CA
The beef tasted great, but it was REALLY fatty and gristly so I was very difficult to eat. I also wasn’t sure about the green puree underneath – it didn’t have much flavor. The elephant garlic was very mild, but the broccolini was delicious. I don’t think all the flavors came together successfully in this dish. 😦

Clams, prawns, calamari, salmon sautéed with garlic and olive oil in a light tomato sauce. $14.95
Firewood Cafe, San Francisco CA
I like Firewood because it’s an easy and comfortable place to grab a nice, hearty meal. The food isn’t fancy but it’s consistent and generally tasty. This pasta was good and they included a decent amount of proteins. They also give you plenty of food so I always have leftovers.

Duck and pork meatballs with tart cherry and tempranillo puree and crisp shallots. $12
Coqueta, San Francisco CA
These meatballs were yummy and very moist. Can you really go wrong with duck and pork ground together?! Certainly the service went wrong…

Chicken tikka masala kati roll. $5
Half side of ground turkey with sweet peas. $3
Kasa Indian Eatery, San Francisco CA
This place is a standard go-to for easy and delicious Indian food for me in the Castro. The food is consistently tasty and the quality is good too. I always get the hot sauce because it tastes really good, but I always pay for it later. Lol!
