Hooks Bay oysters – Pepe Le Moko

Hooks Bay oysters - Pepe Le Moko
With plum vinegar mignonette and fresh horseradish. Half dozen $18
Pepe Le Moko, Portland OR

Damn, this place is dark! And not in a good way. I could barely read the menu. Perhaps the place is scarily dirty or they’re trying to hide something…

These small oyster tasted pretty good, but I was not a fan of the plum vinegar mignonette. It paired awfully with the oysters. The oysters were also poorly shucked and I had to keep spitting out shell bits. Lame!

Bakersfield Picon Punch Royale - Pepe Le Moko
Bakersfield Picon Punch Royale: Torani amer, lemon, Oregon brandy, grenadine, sparkling wine. $10

Our server assured me that this was their least sweet cocktail. God damn! This cocktail literally tasted like a Hawaiian shaved ice with a shit load of berry syrup dumped all over it! Ugh, barf!

Grilled portabella mushroom scramble – Mother’s Bistro & Bar

Grilled portabella mushroom scramble - Mother's Bistro & Bar
Grilled portabellas marinated in garlic, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, scrambled with eggs,
fresh sautéed spinach and asiago cheese. Served with whole wheat toast and potatoes. $11.95
Mother’s Bistro & Bar, Portland OR

This place is certainly popular! We waited a while (which I don’t mind bc I’m used it living in San Francisco), but the hostess was a total bitch! Ugh, someone should really re-train her because I would avoid returning just so that I don’t have to deal with such unprofessionalism again.

Our server a great though – a bit odd, but very likable.  The food tasted fresh and delicious. I’m glad because I would have been pissed to find crappy food after having to endure that horrible front desk.

Mother’s Famous Bloody Mary - Mother's Bistro & Bar
Mother’s Famous Bloody Mary: house-infused pepper and jalapeño vodka with secret bloody concoction. $8

Wild boar scissor cut noodles – M.Y. China

Wild boar scissor cut noodles - M.Y. China
Bean sprouts, scallion, wood ear mushrooms. $14
M.Y. China, San Francisco CA

Have I expressed how much I hate this restaurant? Well I do. This dish was on the 7×7 list and if they ever place another M.Y. China on a future list, I’ll happily skip it. The service and food here are just crap and I refuse to support them any longer.

Bulleit bourbon Manhattan cocktail - M.Y. China
Bulleit bourbon Manhattan. $17
Really?! Seventeen dollars for a Manhattan?! Ugh, can this restaurant closed down already?

Lamb and beef gyro platter – Gryo King

Lamb and beef gyro platter - Gryo King
Served with rice, salad, hummus, tzatziki sauce and homemade bread. $10.95
Gyro King, San Francisco CA

This was pretty good. I wish there was less rice and more hummus though. The bread was also different from most kinds that you get with gyro plates. You usually get pitas or lavash, but this was more of a proper bread. It was tasty and I liked its texture. The gyro meat was nice and tender and very flavorful.

Wok seared beef – M.Y. China

Wok seared beef - M.Y. China
Sichuan peppercorns, arugula. $18
M.Y. China, San Francisco CA

This was our waitress’ suggestion, probably because it was one of the more expensive options. Well, it was horrible! The beef was SO frickin’ dry and bland. The sauce was pretty much seared onto the beef and made it really hard to chew and eat. And serving this gross, dry beef over a sad pile of arugula was another lame choice by this lame restaurant. The beef was only luke warm so there wasn’t even enough heat to wilt the arugula so everything just stayed dry.

Steamed rice - M.Y. China
Steamed rice. $2
