Empanada tucumana - Rural Society
This empanada was delicious! The shredded beef belly was SO tender and juicy and flavorful, and the crust was flaky and perfect. I wish I had stayed and tried more food but I was in a rush and just ducked in for a quick snack.

Falafel sandwich – Amsterdam Falafelshop

Falafel sandwich - Amsterdam Falafelshop
3 pieces falafel on white pita. Small $5.55
Amsterdam Falafelshop, Washington DC

Omg, I loved this place and totally think we need one in California! The ingredients were great and you could add anything you wanted as toppings. Just choose the number of falafel balls and type of pita and then you’re off to the toppings bar. The sandwich was delicious and all the ingredients were first-rate. Noms!

Hickory bbq sandwich - The Pig
Pulled pork butt, buttermilk slaw. Happy hour $7

I wasn’t expecting such a large sandwich for happy hour so it was a nice surprise. The pork was tasty as was the slaw, and I love the egg bun that it was served on. Yummy!

Hot bar lunch – Market to Market

Hot bar lunch - Market to Market
Roasted pork, Asian salmon, beef broccoli, General Tso’s chicken, meatball, steamed vegetables, vegetable egg roll, green beans. $8.88
Market to Market, Washington DC

I kinda fell in love with M2M because it was so conveniently located to my workplace. They charge by weight and their hot bar selection was great especially since they changed up the items every day. The price was also great and you got much more food (and of better quality) had say Lee’s in San Francisco. I’m a fan!

Shrimp and grits – Founding Farmers

Shrimp and grits - Founding Farmers
With andouille sausage. $18
Founding Farmers, Washington DC

I really liked the smoky flavor of this dish. I thought the shrimp were also cooked well. It’s odd for me to say this, but there was too much sauce (and I’m a total sauce-lover)! I completely lost the grits underneath. The serving was very generous.

Chick Chick sandwich – Woodward Takeout Food

Chick Chick sandwich - Woodward Takeout Food
Fried chicken breast, bread and butter pickle, bacon, lettuce, cranberry relish, mayonnaise, toasted bun. $9.95
Woodward Takeout Food, Washington DC

This was a damn delicious sandwich! Maybe fried chicken and bacon aren’t the most healthy lunch options but they tasted so good together, and the fried chicken breast was tender and juicy. I also love the soft brioche bun that they used. Noms!

Death by Chocolate torte – The Trellis Restaurant

Death by Chocolate torte - The Trellis Restaurant
Seven layer chocolate torte with a hand-rolled white chocolate truffle, chocolate ice cream and dark chocolate sauce. $10.95
The Trellis Restaurant, Williamsburg VA

Wow, talk about a decadent dessert! I liked everything about this torte except for the white chocolate truffle. I’m just not a big fan of white chocolate. Suffice it to say that we couldn’t finish this humongous slice. Noms!

Grilled chicken nachos – California Tortilla

Blackened chicken nachos - California Tortilla
Tortilla chips, cheese, blackened chicken, avocado, sour cream and salsa. $7.04
California Tortilla, Washington DC

Meh, this was plain and boring, and the fake nacho cheese was not a good idea. Not a good choice for lunch on an already boring day. At least they have a selection of hot sauces you can choose from to spice things up.
