Pumpkin ravioli – District Commons

Pumpkin ravioli - District Commons
Sage brown butter, amaretto crumble. $15
District Commons, Washington DC

This had great flavors and I liked the sage brown butter, but I thought that the whole thing was a bit dry. You can even see that the ravioli pasta was dry and starting to curl up at the edges. Perhaps the plate sat under the warmer too long – the service WAS a bit slow.

General Tso’s chicken – Dandy’s Carry Out

General Tso's chicken - Dandy's Carry Out
Boneless chicken sautéed with secret sauce, served with steamed broccoli. $7.95
Dandy’s Carry Out, Washington DC

Ugh, staying out late has its downsides, but I don’t think getting greasy Chinese food afterward is one of them, lol! I love my fake Chinese food and I was even able to switch the rice out for steamed broccoli, hehe.

Original chili half-smoke – Ben’s Chili Bowl

Original chili half-smoke - Ben's Chili Bowl
Pork and beef dog, mustard, onion and chili, served with potato chips. $5.95
Potato salad. $2.60
Ben’s Chili Bowl, Washington DC

This is a DC classic, so I had to try it! It was certainly different. I can’t say that I’ve had a hot dog with mustard and chili on it at the same time. It tasted oddly good. I’m not sure I’ll go back for another since it seemed way to unhealthy (even for me, lol), but it was worth trying once. This place is certainly popular though!

Beef short rib – Senart’s Oyster & Chop House

Beef short rib - Senart's Oyster & Chop House
Mashed potatoes, French beans, and green peppercorn sauce. $28
Senart’s Oyster & Chop House, Washington DC

This dish tasted good, but it was a lot of food after an extended happy hour across the street at Ambar. The service here was pretty friendly but they did forget our appetizer order.

Corned beef hash – de Vere’s Irish Pub

Corned beef hash - de Vere's Irish Pub
Two eggs over medium, breakfast potatoes, red bell pepper, red onion, Irish brown bread. $11.99
de Vere’s Irish Pub, Sacramento CA

This hash was decent. I liked the Irish brown bread since it was a nice departure from my usual wheat toast. It was a bit dry but was fine with the butter slathered on.

Lamb burger – Pinea

Lamb burger - Pinea
Harissa, feta, cucumber, yogurt, polenta fries. $17
Pinea, Washington DC

This lamb burger was really delicious, but I think seventeen bucks was a bit much for a lunchtime burger. Although the food was good, it was on the pricey side. The cocktail was also fifteen bucks, d-oh! I did like the tender, juicy patty, cool tzatziki, spicy harissa and trimmed lettuce. The polenta fries were also killer!
