Sushi lunch set – Asia Nine

Sushi lunch set - Asia Nine
California roll, baked salmon roll, nigiri of tuna, salmon, yellow tail, eel, and shrimp. Served with house salad and miso soup. $16
Asia Nine, Washington DC

This sushi was GROSS! The nigiri were dry and definitely NOT fresh. The sushi rice on the rolls were also dry and flavorless. At least you could hide the horribleness with the baked salmon roll since it was hot. This was my first experience with sushi in DC and it traumatized me! And the service and food timing was horrible. One guy didn’t receive his roll until we got our check. Really, that’s acceptable service?!

PEI mussels – Logan Tavern

PEI mussels - Logan Tavern
White wine and garlic broth. $11.50
Logan Tavern, Washington DC

These mussels were a mess! They were gritty and the actual mussel flesh were SO tiny. The herbs and other ingredients were also too large to navigate through to easily eat anything. And the broth was bland and boring.

Watermelon Basil Slush cocktail - Logan Tavern
Watermelon Basil Slush: shaved ice, vodka, watermelon, basil, sparkling wine. $8
Sweet but not very refreshing. Definitely not worth the calories.

Bread and butter - Logan Tavern
Bread and butter. Complimentary
Best part of this meal! That’s sad…

Maverick pizza (plus) – &pizza

Maverick pizza (plus) - &pizza
Classic tomato, housemade mozzarella, salami, pepperoni, hot sausage, parmesan reggiano, oregano oil. I also added caramelized onions, olives, and arugula.
&pizza, Washington DC

Omg, I fell in love with this place while in DC! I totally think that we need to have one in San Francisco! You create your pizza in line (or choose one of their signature pizzas) and they cooked it through their conveyor belt oven in no time flat! They have a great selection of sauces and toppings (and even doughs) to choose from and the pizzas taste great! Score!

Gyro platter – Quick Pita

Gyro platter - Quick Pita
Beef gyro, feta, tzatziki, rice, cucumber salad, chickpea salad, bread. $8.25
Quick Pita, Washington DC

This platter was pretty decent. I liked the variety of healthy sides that you get and that the gyro meat was sliced in wide strips (better for slathering tzatziki onto). The rice was a throw-away item for me.

Burrito desnudo – District Taco

Burrito desnudo - District Taco
Burrito bowl with carne asada, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, lettuce, cilantro, cheese, jalapeno, onion. $7
District Taco, Washington DC

This was a pretty decent lunch for seven bucks! I’ve noticed that the food in DC is cheaper than in San Francisco across all price points. It’s a nice little price break during this work trip! πŸ™‚

2-item combo – City Lights of China Express

2-item combo - City Lights of China Express
General Tso’s chicken, broccoli beef, fried rice and soda. $9.55
City Lights of China Express, Washington DC

This was from the food court in the Ronald Reagan Building, and I wasn’t impressed. It was your typical Chinese food court food I guess, not much better than Panda Express. The General Tso’s chicken was really saucy though which I liked. I can’t deny myself the sugary Chinese sauces. πŸ™‚

Sicilian pizza – California Pizza Kitchen

Sicilian pizza - California Pizza Kitchen
Spicy marinara, Italian sausage, capicola ham, salami, mozzarella, parmesan, basil and oregano on thin crust. $15.59
California Pizza Kitchen, San Francisco CA

This pizza was ok. I liked that it was thin crust, but I felt like the pizza was a bit dry. The meats were very thinly sliced so they dried out fairly quickly.

Papa burger – A&W

Papa burger - A&W
Two beef patties, two slices American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and A&W Papa sauce. $3.99
A&W, Charles Town WV

Wanna know something about me? I actually worked at an A&W in high school in Washington state, lol! I know a lot of disgusting things that happen in the fast food world, but it doesn’t stop me from eating there. This brings me back, hehe. I will say that I do like that A&W still serves it’s larger burgers in a box and doesn’t squish them and wrap them in the paper. This burger was decent, but I do love their Papa sauce. πŸ™‚

Crab cake – Ford’s Fish Shack

Crab cake - Ford's Fish Shack
Remoulade sauce. $8
Ford’s Fish Shack, Ashburn VA

This crab cake was delicious and different from the usual crab cakes I’ve had. The lump crab pieces were quite large, and the cake was loosely formed and very tender and juicy. I also liked the remoulade sauce, but thought that the market price for the crab cake was a little high for the small portion.
